It's no surprise I love my music.
Although I'm not taking my Ipod along with me for every run these days, rest assured I always have it fully charged and ready. There's nothing like a fast beat and/or fancy guitar work to keep my pace strong and help the miles go fast.
In going through some of the favorites, I realized I have a few songs that are "typically" not my taste, but they are favorite songs to listen to as I log some miles. My playlist is pretty eclectic, and these five featured favorites will prove that.
These songs are are heavy on the wait-for-it opening instrumental riffs. When they pop up on my Ipod, I usually do a (virtual) high-5 to any and all imaginary runners nearby.
Here they are:
First off...Enter Sandman by Metallica. I am not a huge fan of heavy metal, but I do appreciate it for the heavy beat and (usual) fast tempo it entails. This song has such a mellow intro...only to get loud and crazy after the first minute of play.
How about some Paradise City by Guns N' Roses? Oh gosh....another head banger piece of art that starts off kind of calm and tranquil, then takes off after Axl blows his whistle.
Hells Bells by AC/DC. It's a given I love AC/DC (even more proof HERE). Unfortunately, I didn't appreciate their talent back in the day. In recent years, though, they are front and center on my playlist. Their heavy guitar-laden style is my anthem.
Then, there's Darius Rucker's Wagon Wheel. I'm not really much of a country music fan, especially songs that I consider "wanger-twanger-like" with a lot of banjo and fiddle stuff going on. This song, though, totally gets me moving. It makes me smile, it makes me feel good.
Last of all, Lose Yourself by Emienm. Like all the others mentioned here, this song has a captivating intro that slowly builds and sucks me in. I've never been much of a rap enthusiast, either, but I have a lot of respect for Eminem and his art. Some of the language is harsh, but it's also real.
I've had all these songs except Wagon Wheel on my playlist at one time or another. I think that Eminem song is perpetually listed on RW as a top 10 running song. It's very motivating.
ReplyDeleteI agree...it's a great song. I totally love the intro!
DeleteSo we're definitely #Kimtwins. We literally have the same topic today, LOL
ReplyDelete'Lose Yourself' will forever be my favorite running song!
It's a great piece to get your sweat on!
DeleteI have some ACDC songs on my workout playlist nothing like a little old fashioned rock to get you pumped up
ReplyDeleteAC/DC totally rocks!!!!
DeleteParadise City brings back so many memories. It's a great song to pump me up. Every once in a while I like a country song. It's good to listen to something different from time to time.
ReplyDeleteI agree...I'm really not into country music, but there are a few that I make exception for LOL
DeleteI don't run with music, but I (surprisingly) know all of those songs!
ReplyDeleteI don't run with music as much as I used to, but I definitely still love to have it as an option.
DeleteYou have eclectic tastes in music! I remember when "Sandman" first came out. I was teaching a lower level science class. One boy in the class asked if we could listen to that song at the end of class. I told him we could, if everyone got their work done. I never had any trouble motivating that class again! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great strategy...and a great reward!
DeleteI love Lose Yourself. It really was the first rap song that I appreciated. Actually seeing Eminem's movie 8 Mile was an eye-opener for me with regards to rap. And I'm always down for some AC/DC. Not so much Metallica or Guns N' Roses though. :-)
ReplyDeleteAC/DC totally rocks! Their music is perfect for running or working out ;-)
DeleteI did not know many of these so had to have a listen. Is that Wagon wheel song a remake of an older one? It sounds like something my grandma would have set ed to back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI honestly do not know much country music, so Wagon Wheel could easily be a remake
DeleteThe three songs I know on this list- Enter Sandman, Paradise City, and Lose Yourself- I can totally see how they would be good to run to. I just heard Lose Yourself on the radio this week for the first time in awhile. I still can't get over Eminem's voice. It's like... squeaky? Does that make sense? I love the song Enter Sandman. It reminds me of my childhood. My older brother was a really good drummer and he had a drum set in our basement. He would blast Metallica music and other similar bands and drum along. It was really loud but it broadened my interest in certain music.
ReplyDeleteThat would be neat!
DeleteThe first 3 are on the radio station I listen to, a lot. They like Metallica, Guns n Roses, and AC/DC.
ReplyDeleteI listen to a classic rock station in my car...and I hear a lot of AC/DC and Guns N' Roses ;-)
DeleteI totally rock out to Hells Bells too! My favorite is Steady as She Goes - I sing the refrain to myself when I'm trying to lock into a certain pace.
ReplyDeleteHa ha!! I think my fav Ac/DC song is Long Way to the Top if you Wanna Rock'n'Roll ;-)
DeleteI am irritated by how much I like Wagon Wheel, lol. What does "rock me like a wagon wheel" even mean?? Is your wagon wheel stuck somewhere? Generally wheels roll, not rock! But it's just so catchy....
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate! It's such a wanger-twanger song...but there's something about it that I like.
DeleteMusic is so motivating when running! I love me some Darius Rucker! Haha
ReplyDeleteI love how eclectic your taste is! Music is so motivating and as long as it has a good beat I am down.
