Once I was running the LA Marathon. The old course started in downtown LA and the first couple of miles were very slightly downhill. Also, there wasn't anything like staging back then so I was fairly near the front at the start. I ran that first mile in just under 7 minutes! Definitely not a good plan. Fortunately I was smart enough to back off A LOT!Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04808535651561822721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5884362622170497685.post-53198074488916185722020-05-14T13:11:57.655-05:002020-05-14T13:11:57.655-05:00I've made a few of those, myself! The last one where that happened, a bunch of little kids were in the front and they didn't know what they heck they were doing. It was a little community run and the littles were doing a "fun run." Well, I had to dodge those little pinball like children who bounced around all over the place and had no clue where to turn around. GAH! I was wiped after my first mile. lol

My other major faux pas have come from "under training" and convincing myself that it was okay and not readjusting my goals. Oops. That's a hard swallow at mile 15 of a marathon. Lesson learned!!

And I don't do Gatorade (learned that pretty quickly) and those gels are hit or miss for me.
