‘Fessing it up for August

…and just like that, it’s time to hit the ‘fessional.

You know the drill, a few ‘fessions released, exposed, and shared does us well. Besides, there’s no sense in keeping all this stuff to myself, LOL.

So, here’s what needs disclosing for August…

First off, where-oh-where did my summer go? Good grief, it seems like the solstice was a mere 20 minutes ago. Just this week, I was out for a post-dinner walk, and was chasing daylight by the time I made it back home. How did that happen? I gotta summerfess, I’m in denial at what’s coming in the next few months…

I need to footwearfess that I had a recent rather awkward sandal fail. On a recent lunchtime walk, through the elaborate downtown skywalk in Des Moines, my fancy “fashion-before-function” sandals suffered a broken strap in the final stretch of a 2-mile walk! Thankfully, I found some super glue to remedy the situation for the afternoon, but UGH! Walking barefoot through the skywalk, for that final stretch, was kind of icky!

Speaking of the Des Moines skywalk, I’ll walkfess that it’s my new lunchtime routine. Why? Because I have a new job in a much better location! I’ve been at this new gig for a month now, and am loving every minute of it! I’ve already discovered how popular skywalk walking is. I’m loving that as well. While I miss being outside, I don’t have any traffic to fight nor is there any humidity wreaking havoc on my hair. It’s a major triple win.

I am still making the daily #OptOutside streak a priority. I get out for a lot of early morning walks (on my non-running days), and I walk a lot after I get home. That being said, I’m embarrassed to vestfess that I keep forgetting to wear my weighted vest for most of these walks. Yeah, #FacePalm!

Lastly, I learned what happens when you pause the Garmin and resume it after changing locations. This happened on my Wednesday morning run this week. There was a tiny bit of rain, the other two gals didn’t feel like running a fifth mile, and my mojo was waivering. I decided to pause the run (after finishing the fourth mile) and resume it upon driving back to my house. Although Garmin paused the “run,” it kept tracking my movement, LOL. Let me Garminfess, it was an interesting little discovery seeing my “driving” route between Mile-4 and Mile-5.

Okay, that’ll have to do for now. The August ‘fessions have cleansed my soul and both of my soles. I’m ready (sort of) for September to enter the scene.

You’ve heard my ‘fessions…do you have any to share?

  1. Congrats on your new job! I'm glad that you like it.
Skywalk walking sounds like a genius solution for avoiding traffic and humidity (minus the sandal fail, oh dear!). Love that you’re keeping the #OptOutside streak alive, weighted vest or not.
Here’s to finishing summer strong and surviving September!

    1. Thank you, Catrina! The sandal fail was awkward, but I guess I can be thankful it happened in the skywalk and not on city streets…

  2. Yay for the new jobby job!!! Having a skywalk is quite a perk. Eek on the sandal fail.

I'm curious about weighted vests, but I runfess that I haven't acted on it, and I feel like I might "forget" to wear it as well.

    1. And I have the vest sitting by my front door! I just don’t think to grab it…I need to adjust my exit strategy when I leave the house, I guess.

    1. I do miss the fresh air, but I love not having to deal with crossing streets and/or weather. It’s gonna be a great fix in the winter!

  5. Glad you love your new job. I have to say that when I went to the office, I used to walk at lunch. WFH, I do other things - laundry, etc. during lunch.

    1. The sandal snafu really caught me off guard. I’m glad it was an only for the afternoon and not the entire day that I had to deal with the “glue fix.”

  7. Shoes always break at the absolute worst time! I'm so sorry! But congratulations on the new job! It's so great to hear that you're happy and loving it! I'm sorry your summer is coming to a close. I'm not mad about it happening for us, but I know you will miss it.

    1. The summer season is far too short in Iowa, so it’s a buzzkill when the temps start cooling-off.

  8. I'm so happy that you're loving your new job! And how great to have the skywalk system for your lunch-time walks. Maybe you can keep a pair of very comfortable flats at your desk for your midday walks?

That Garmin map is pretty wild. Who knew it would also track your drive and not just show the two separate times you were running.

    1. Yeah, the Garmin map is weird! I just realized it didn’t actually trace my true route, but “drew” a line from the end of the first run and the start of the other. Totally weird!

  9. Yet again, the anonymous comment above was mine. LOL Perhaps now that I've logged in with my Google account I'll be good in the future.
