Here we are, already entertaining the first runfession session of 2026.
As per usual, the month of January was anything but boring. It actually was quite cold and crazy windy in Iowa, but the usual “white stuff,” which shall not be named, was at the bare minimum. No complaints in that regard.
Alas, here’s a few select ‘fessions to come clean on…
For starters, our dear little Max was front and center. He not only had his 16th birthday on the 19th, but we also celebrated his 11th Gotcha Day on the 24th. It’s hard to imagine life without him, he’s such a sweet and much-loved member of the family. I will Maxfess, though, his mischievousness has gotten worse in recent months. He recently figured out how to knock-down the stairway barricade, and seems to think he has every right to nap on his mommy’s bed when she’s at work all day. He’s lucky to be such a cutie.
A few weeks ago, I finally figured out how to track strength workouts on my Garmin. Although it’s nice to get full credit for all of my fitness endeavors, I gotta Garminfess, it can be slightly compulsive, LOL. For example, I am often tempted to record my daily 2:30-minute planks (but I don’t). I do like having a more accurate means of documenting my stair workouts, though (under the “cardio” setting instead of the “walking” mode).
As long as we’re in the midst of ‘fessing for January, here’s a doozy. I gotta Wordlefess that I’m full-on addicted to the daily challenge of guessing a 5-letter word with only six chances to get to it right. That said, some of the words have been tough! There are some that I just, plain and simple, get lucky with my choice of a starter word coincidentally having a few key letters. There are many more times, though, where it’s a total guessing game (and not always a successful one).
I’ve been at my new job for almost five months now. A huge perk is access to the elaborate Des Moines skywalk for my lunchtime walks. Although it’s nice to not have any wind, snow, ice or traffic to battle with, it’s crazy cold in some of the passages this time of year. Ugh, let me skywalkfess, I’ve been tempted to wear gloves and a fleece headband…but I have resisted. There’s a whole slew of regular noontime walkers, and no one else is wearing the outdoor attire either. And, when I get back to my desk, I’m usually a glistening and glowing mess - proof positive I really don’t need any extra layers or cold weather accessories.
Whew! That will have to do for now. It always feels good to get those ‘fessions done and out of the way. Bring on February!
Your turn! Do you have any ‘fessions to share?
I’m linking this with Marcia for the monthly Runfessions link-up

Max!!!! What a cutie. I would "runfess" that I'd probably let him sleep on my bed whenever he wanted. I can't resist that little face.
ReplyDeleteBrr. I would probably be bundled up in coat, hat and gloves for those skywalk walks! People would be snickering at me but I don't care- I'm a cold weather wimp.
Truthfully, I don’t mind Max on my bed… just not unsupervised, LOL
DeleteAh, mischievous little Max! We close our bedroom doors to keep Scooby off the beds — but sometimes we forget and find that tell-tale impression in the comforter!
ReplyDeleteI love how cold-weather cities have those “habbittrail” networks. I would probably wear gloves though!
I don’t give Max free rein (upstairs) when he’s alone… I don’t trust him either all the upstairs carpet!
DeleteMax is 16 already! And still causing chaos with barricade break-ins and bed privileges, ha, what a legend. 😂
ReplyDeleteWordle had a few difficult ones lately! Like, SUMAC??? What is that even?!
Walking along the Skywalk in winter is a great idea. Although I'd miss the outdoors, it's a lot more efficient if you don't have to put on so many layers!
I am really grateful for the skywalk. I used it a lot back when it was warm (to avoid the humidity & hassle of crossing streets). It’s just really cold with the current temps.
DeleteIt’s fabulous that you have this walkway at work for some diversions. Wordle did have some doozies the past few weeks. We love it too! Happy birthday Max!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah I love Wordle, but it’s been keeping me humble…
DeleteAww happy birthday to Max!
ReplyDeleteI've fallen out of my Wordle habit since the holidays - good reminder that I should jump back on the bandwagon. It can be so addictive!
I like the daily brain challenge that I get from Wordle :-)
DeleteHappy Birthday Max!!! Doggo gets away with so much more than Stepdog could, and it's 100% due to her cuteness and her ability to melt my husband's heart.
ReplyDeleteI've had so many Wordle days like the "eight" day where I've gotten five of the letters right away and barely get the last one.
Woot woot to surviving January! Summer is coming!!! Says me under the influence of the euphoria of a sunshiny 14 degree day.
It’s frustrating to have so many correct letters, and still barely squeak through on the final attempt!
DeleteHB Max. what a cutie.
ReplyDeleteI have good days and bad days with Wordle but I am addicted.
Some of the words are not very common…
DeleteHonestly, I"m on Max's side. He can do what he wants. He's perfect. So glad you survived January! It's got to be pretty dang cold out there!
ReplyDeleteI just don’t want him messing around on the carpet…
DeleteOh Max you cheeky monkey! You are way too cute to be angry at. Ha! I too am a devout Wordler and I runfess that was the "gateway" to other daily word games as well. Cheers to January being in the rear view! It was cold here but sunny so not all bad.
ReplyDeleteI need to brainfess I’m also addicted to a few other daily “brain enriching” games as well
