So there I was, getting my groove back after a mini vacation.
Fortunately, my overall fitness wasn’t lacking while away (other than some lackluster running totals, LOL), so it wasn’t a tough return to reality. Still, missing a week of work and whatnot made these final days of June whiz by at record speed.
How is it almost July? Where did the first half of 2026 go? Things that make you go, “Hmmm….”
Before I get into the deets from the week, welcome to the Weekly Run Down!
I love hosting this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner)! If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 8:00AM (EST) on Sundays and remains open through noon on Monday. We love reading about everyone's weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blog as well...please don't link-drop & dash ;-)
Anyways, here’s what went down this week, as I was moving & grooving back in Iowa:
There also was 10-mile bike ride after work. I love post-workday rides, but there’s also this “little” ride coming up, called RAGBRAI, that I’m training for as well.
Afterwards, I hit the gym for some intense shoulder work. Over lunch, I got outside for a quick mile, then got a bonus mile of walking to and from a summer concert thing at a brewery.
Overall, it was a decent week of rallying back to my (Iowa) routine. The running came in at 13 miles, which is a good “running maintenance” number for me. Walking was substantial, with 22 miles. Biking, as is typical this time of year (did I mention RAGBRAI training?) ended with just under 69 miles in the saddle. I went a little light on the strength work this week, as I was still feeling somewhat sleep-deprived, and I thought it best to not risk injury with compromised form due to fatigue.
In other news:
Friday Fashion Flair. I’ve mentioned before how much of a fan I am of the classic black and white color combo (especially in an Aztec print). Pair it with a bright pop of color, and it’s even better.
I mentioned in my Runfessioins post that we had a jigsaw puzzle set-up at work in the 8th floor break room. Yikes, it became a small obsession for me during my afternoon breaks this week. I wasn’t the only one working on it, but it sure was fun playing along.
Finally, there were a few Garmin badges that made their way to me this week.
So, that’s the latest and greatest! The week had me getting back in my Iowa groove, and I’m glad things went well.
How was your week? Any humidity in your area? Training for any races? Is it easy to get your groove back upon returning from vacation?

It was very nice of Momma N to get the rain out of her system on your rest day. Maybe she'll learn to play nice more often.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what happened to the first half of 2026 either, but it sure went by fast.
Now if she could pull-back on some of the wind…
DeleteSounds like a good week of getting back to your routine and getting ready for RAGBRAI. I hope the weather plays nice this week!!
ReplyDeleteWe have some of your heat & humidity, but I can handle that. Just hoping all this crazy wind is done by RAGBRAI week!
DeleteGreat to see you easing back into your groove — the mix of runs, strength, and sunshine looked solid. Always nice when a week just feels a bit more aligned. Hope that continues into the next one!
ReplyDeleteIt is super humid here. I'm totally over it!!!!
We got hit with crazy humidity this weekend, it’s forecasted to remain here all week…
DeleteRAGBRAI is coming up quickly, glad you guys are getting those training rides in! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhile we've had quite a few days of delightfully low humidity over the past month, it's awful right now and doesn't look like it will improve as the week wears on and the temps skyrocket - ugh!
It’s quite humid here, too! I can handle it, but it does a nasty number on my hair!
DeleteIt feels good to get back into a routine, right? Sounds like a great week, with a nice focus on cycling (oooh, RAGBRAI!)
ReplyDeleteUgh, humidity. I don't want to talk about it. I'm envious of your 54 degree morning!
Those “cool” mornings are nice, but they feel so cold!
DeleteYay getting ready for RAGBRAI! I am also upping my biking mileage in July. 54 degrees is the perfect temperature. I do not miss my run when those temperatures come around! Great workouts this week and settling back into your routine.
ReplyDeleteWe’re really getting excited for RAGBRAI! Hard yo believe it’s only a few weeks away…
DeleteIt's so good to get back into the groove after a trip, isn't it? Looks like a good week back with a bit of everything. I know all about being sleep deprived after travel, ugh. And I didn't even have early morning flights.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the RAGBRAI training! It's been very humid here too this week, but I welcome the hot weather (which is over now in our area).
Although I’m not a fan of the heavy humidity, I do welcome the warm weather :-)
DeleteThat's a solid mix of running, walking, and cycling again, and I had to smile at the “just a 10K badge” decision turning into a workout plan!
ReplyDeleteThe RAGBRAI training is clearly starting to shape the bigger picture with that strong bike volume!
It feels SO good to be back on the trails, via the bike! It was such a cold & windy spring, though, I’m feeling a little behind on the mileage.
DeleteI know how much you enjoy training for and participating in Ragbrai. Time is flying by again for sure. Always feels good to gate back into our routine after travel. Have a great week ahead
ReplyDeleteThsnks, Deborah! It does feel good getting back into a routine :-)
DeleteHow is it almost July! That's what I want to know.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you were able to slide right back into your routine. That's what I usually do after vacation... gotta rip the band-aid off right away and don't even think about it too much! ;) So great you're training for Ragbrai! I am participating in another Team Wilpers Challenge right now but now race on the calendar as of right now.
It’s always good to just dive back in. I kept pretty active while in Houston, but there’s nothing like getting back into the “home” routine.
DeleteAre you doing the whole Ragbrai or just a shortened version? Good luck with the training. This week looks brutal, weather-wise!
ReplyDeleteMy company’s team is riding two days, and that’s just enough for me :-)
DeleteOh, we love RAGBRAI time! Whoo hoo! I hope you had a great training cycle!
ReplyDeleteAnd the weather is just miserable. There's no other way to put it.
It hit really hot & humid this last weekend. Ugh! I can tolerate it, but I don’t have to love it …
ReplyDeleteNot surprised that you got your grove back so quickly.
ReplyDeletewe are getting your heat and humidity! Very odd for us.
The puzzle for breaks is a neat idea. The perks of not WFH.
