So, What be the Haps?

So, what be the haps?

Well, this week was all over the place.....

Monday featured a short mile outside for my #nevermissaMonday. It was foggy & damp, but the temps were moderate. We had a major winter storm coming, due to arrive overnight or early in the morning, so I wanted to get outside since I anticipated I'd be indoors for the next couple days.

Another #nevermissaMonday with my Knuckle Lights
Tuesday, the snow arrived.  Although, it wasn't as severe as we'd been expecting, the temps had fluctuated all day between 32-34 degrees, so a lot of the new snow had melted. What was tricky, though, was the frozen "melted" snow everywhere....not exactly runner-friendly road conditions, so I took it to the 'mill, and stayed inside. Again.

Yet another run-of-the-'mill experience...four miles inside
Wednesday had similar temps. Cold and icy, but sunshine made it better.

Then the mail arrived, and my day (and week) got much brighter!

Thursday, the temps were phenomenal at lunch time. I took the dog for a quick walk in the sunshine, and spent a few quality minutes outside.

Paying tribute to the glorious sun in a crescent pose
Upon getting home after work, I was greeted by much colder temps. The sun kept playing hide-and-seek with the clouds, and the good 'ole NW wind tried to play with my attitude. I met up with a friend for a few daylight miles, and it was a challenge staying vertical in the wind. Somehow, we managed to keep a near 9:30 pace for those five miles (which actually felt more like 10).

Although I may be smiling, I was very cold and exhausted after those five miles...

Saturday, I woke up (two hours later than usual) with an achy-breaky back, and major fatigue. I met a friend for 5 miles in the awesome temps, though. My back felt (somewhat) better after running, so I walked for another 30 minutes and did some yoga/core work when I got home. I also got to take the new shoes out for their first run!

The new shoes! I couldn't just let them sit idle in their box...
My poor feet desperately needed some TLC, so I treated them to some lotion and fresh nail polish.

Fresh nail polish...it's the little things

Super Bowl Sunday... another day with a later than usual wake-up, and continued back stiffness. It was a rest day (from running), but I did the usual planking and a little yoga and stretching. I found a Super Bowl Game "workout" to do during the game....so I didn't sit still for most of the game.

... there were a lot of jumping jacks, and a few push-ups during the game....

I also may have eaten a few of these...

Tator skins!
...and some of this...

Loaded nachos
And maybe, just maybe, I may have sipped a naughty beverage...

I'm not a beer drinker, but give me a hard cider and I'm happy
Disclosure...I'm not much of a drinker, nor do I indulge in "Super Bowl food" every day, but once in awhile I think it's OK to just go with it. Everything in moderation, right? Besides, I was constantly doing jumping jacks, push-ups, lunges, and burpees....there was no guilt, whatsoever, in what I ate or drank. And I was ready for bed when the game ended.

I'm linking up (again) with Holly from HoHo Runs and Tricia from  MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. I invite you to checkout their blogs, as well as all the other linked blogs. It's always fun to read about what everyone's been up to!

How was your week? Crazy weather? Happy surprises in the mail?

  1. Oh I also indulged in waaaay too much junk food and beverages yesterday during the Super Bowl and today I will pay for it. However, we had a great time at a party hosted by friends. Your outdoor Yoga poses are great, especially the warrier pose in the snow.

  2. I overindulged in guac (I make the best one!) but it was ok, since I rode the struggle bus for my 10 miler yesterday!

I hope your back feels better this week!

    1. Thanks, Wendy! The back is finally better...it was "only" a few days, but felt like a month. I don't like having to wince every time I try to bend over.... putting on my socks and shoes was torture!

  3. I should be getting some new sneakers in the mail asap and I can't wait! My old kicks are definitely worn out and I'm starting half marathon training this week, so I am pretty excited for that.

Also, I didn't even make it to the end of the game last night. Passed out in the middle of the 4th quarter, haha.

  4. You gave the Super Bowl a whole new meaning with all that activity! I did have to jump up and every commercial to get all my steps in, that took me to half time :) I love Super bowl snacks and adults beverages, no shame in that game! Have a great week!

  5. Boy was I feeling it this morning, I thought of you too for the #nevermissamonday run. I sure did not want to get up and of course after I got done I felt so much better and ready to start my week. I'm with you on the all in moderation. I love to eat and drink. I think I post every single time I do drink. I'm sure some think I do it more often lol But the 80% 20% rule for me is more like 60% healthy 40% not so healthy.
Thanks for linking up with us Kim, I do love getting mail too! :)

New shoes...yes!! I got a pair last week and broke them in on Sunday. Taking them out for a longer run this week.

I stayed home for the super bowl so, I did not have too many temptations.

    Have a great week!

  11. I agree, moderation is key. I have never been one to totally deprive myself of anything...if I can have just a little of this or that, I don't crave it.
