First, Let Me Runfess

Well, it's that time of the of the month again.

The Runfessions are flowing...and, it's my turn to join the conversation.

For the most part, things haven't been too unstable or stress-inducing. That's all good, right? Even so, there still are a few things I'll runfess with y'all...

Although it's been a pretty mild winter in my little corner of the world, I runfess that I'm over it. The wind can stop blowing (well, at least it can blow less), the snow can go, and let's be done with all that sand on every street and on every sidewalk. Max is much more tolerant of bath time now, but I'm not loving bathing him almost on a daily basis from all the winter residue he brings home after (almost) every walk we take.

Moving on, remember that little coping mechanism of my taking outdoor selfies after my indoor runs? Well, with the not-so-extreme weather, those indoor runs have been few and far between. Believe me, that is GOOD thing (because we all know how I feel about my Milly time). I have to runfess, though, that it has been kind of a bummer because those #IndoorWorkoutOutdoorSelfies were kinda fun. I never appreciated cryotherapy until giving it a try, even if it was by default.
Only ONE treadmill run in February!
My February Challenge went well. With the exception of two days, I have done everything I set out to do this month. All the push-ups (at least 20 everyday), even more stairs (20 flights -at the minimum- on a daily basis) and daily walking. Some of those walks had to happen courtesy of Milly, but I don't mind walking with her as much as I do running. There were two days, just recently, that the walking didn't happen...and I'll just runfess it, here and now, that I'm A-okay with that.
check, check, and check
In other news....I gotta runfess that I love it when the universe smiles back at you. Case in point, next weekend. The hubby and I are heading to Omaha for the Leprechaun Chase. This event (a 10K St. Patrick's Day extravaganza) has also had a Chase in Des Moines for the past several years...but the organizers decided to only host the Omaha venue this year. I won a free registration (from having been an AG placer last year), so we thought, "Why not?" Turns out, the hubby forgot about the date and scheduled a presentation the same day (ironically, in western Iowa, not far from Omaha) for the late morning. Are you ready for this? I received the pre-race information email this week...and the race start time isn't until 4:00! Having never done this event, I assumed it would also be in the morning (like the Des Moines one had been), but the 4:00 start time suits me fine. Onward!

And, last (but by no means least), the post-workday daylight has been phenomenal. I know, it happens every year, but it really seems to have happened rather suddenly and rather intensely this year. I runfess that it will be a bummer when the early morning daylight takes a hit next weekend, but the "evening" daylight will be just that much more grand.
Another step closer to summer...
Anyways, like I said, all is well and I really don't have much to whine about. We have another warm weekend on tap, with temps in the upper 40F's -low 60F's, and the extended forecast is looking awesome (as of right now) for race weekend in Omaha. Life is good!

How are things in your world? Was February 2020 kind to you? Are you ready to move on to warmer and sunnier running days?

  1. I'm also ready to winter to be over, although this year really hasn't been bad for us. But for the past 2 days the wind has been crazy and I can do without that.
I've never done a race that late in the day! I think it would be tricky for fueling purposes since Im not used to running at that time.

    1. I did the RnR Vegas, and that had a 5:00 (I think?) start time. It was really hard to fuel properly, but that also was my rally-back 13.1, so I was running it easy and with no finish time goals.

  2. I love the idea of a free race entry as an AG prize. We've been mild here winter wise but I'm looking forward to melting our remaining snow this weekend. Thanks for linking!

  3. Wow, nice that that race works out so well for you! we’ve had more wind than real cold here, but the wind makes even not-cold feel cold! I’m enjoying the earlier sunrise until we change the clocks again ....

    1. Our wind has been terrible! IT's been in the mid-30's the past few days (which would feel "not too cold") but it's been like freezing & almost miserable.

  4. So cool that you got a free race registration for an AG award. I love that idea! So much nicer than a medal. Sounds like the day worked out perfectly for you and Hubby. I will be looking forward to reading a race recap! :)

  5. A 4 oclock race time is different! At least it will be warmer and maybe sunnier for you too. Have a really fun time this weekend.

    1. I'd forgotten, but last year the DSM race started at 2:00 (I think)...it was a new start time they were trying. The 4;00 is quite a bit later, so it will be interesting, but it's "only" a 10K LOL

    1. Next weekend will be fun ;-) I've never ran that race (in Omaha), so it will be neat to see their version of it.

  9. Well done on the February challenge! 580 press-ups, 580 stairs, 27 miles - amazing!
Who cares about 2 missing miles? Well done!

    1. I care absolutely NADA about those two missed miles (that were "made up" on other days LOL). I'm thankful for the dedication to doing everything else daily....but I'm getting a little burnt out on the push-ups, just saying.

  11. I love how everything is working out with the Leprechaun chase. I am treadmill bound tomorrow for my long run d/t snow and cold, but with any luck it will be my last indoor long run this winter and I should be able to start doing my shorter weekday runs outside soon. See ya winter!

    1. The Leprechaun Chase had me in a small anxiety fit for a couple days, brain-storming if I'd have to drop the hubby off at his gig and drive myself to Omaha for the race, then hustle back to get him afterwards. What a relief to not have to worry about any of that ;-) I'm really curious where you reside...;-)

  13. Love when a plan comes together! Hope he has a great presentation and you have a great race.

February was fine, I guess. I'm making progress, and getting around a bit more, so that's always good.

  14. Well, our weekend is very cold and crazy windy. And then it looks like April showers move in. Yup, I am definitely over Winter! But at least it's not going to stay this cold (but unfortunately will be for my long run tomorrow).

That's perfect that you'll be able to get the race in after all! Even though an afternoon race has to be tricky. Good luck!

  15. I'm actually looking forward to the sun coming back in the evenings! I've missed my sunset runs twice a week. Now I'll get to take pics on my evening runs and not have them come out blurry!
