Stuck Inside - No Need to Hide

Have you ever been stuck inside and needing a fitness fix?

Hey, it happens. Sometimes, the outdoor conditions just aren't in our favor. It may be too hot, too cold, too icy, or just too dangerous (I'm looking at you, lightening). We cannot control the weather, but that doesn't mean we have to be victims of it.

If you're looking for some ideas on at-home entertainment, via working-out, maybe I can help you out. Here are a few blog posts from the archives...

What you got.
Shall we start with some basic at-home options? Here's a blog post that will give you some ideas on workout "equipment" you probably already have access to. We're talking minimal expense here: yoga, stairs, HIIT, body-weight resistance exercises...you get the picture.

Workday Fix.
With the pandemic still front and center, many are still working from home. Need a few options to break up the day? Whether your working on-site, or from the confines of your home, it's never good to remain seated for long periods of time.
Do you have access to a stairway? Many of us have heard the saying that "hills are like speedwork in disguise." Well, stair-climbing is like hill running on steroids. Your entire body benefits, from the waist-down. The cardio is legit, too.

HIIT.
Care to spice things up a bit? If you're limited on time (and space), a HIIT workout may be a perfect fit. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) will give you a high-energy workout in a short span of  time. Some benefits of HIIT workouts include increased metabolism, loss of weight, fat reduction and increased energy.

another to consider: HIIT'ing at Home

The treadmill.
Yes, I'm including the treadmill. After all, many of us already own one or, at the very least, have access to one. Often times a last resort for myself, I do have a few tricks to make my "treadmill time" more bearable.

*Tackling the Treadmill Turmoil

Anyways, these are just some suggestions if you're searching for some new ideas. I haven't even scratched the surface regarding online streaming, fitness apps, or YouTube videos. The possibilities are endless for at-home fitness. Even if one has access to a gym or a training program, it's always good to mix things up and/or try something new.

Do you ever find yourself getting bored with your at-home routine (if you have one)? Are you a fan of working-out at home, or do you prefer a gym setting?

**Disclaimer** I am not a fitness coach (nor do I play one on TV). All workouts referenced, in the blog posts, are ones that I have designed for me based on my own personal goals and abilities.

  1. Maybe I'm weird, but I'm stubborn enough to not even admit I'm "stuck" inside, because I'm in control of myself and if I wanna head out, I do. Where there's a will there's a way. Of course I stay in when conditions are unsafe, and like you said, there are plenty of fun options.

    1. I can handle being indoors (because I can always find ways to get my sweat on), but when it's been for almost two weeks...it feels like prison LOL

  2. There's something that I really love about breaking out a tank and shorts and getting insanely sweaty when it's cold and freezing outside. Of course after 5 straight weeks of it I will also be very ready to bundle up in all the layers to go running...

    1. Kudos to you, you've been treadmilling it much longer than I have this winter...you're a beast!

  3. I like both the gym and working out at home. I never get bored -- there are so many apps & YouTube videos.

I do like a gym, but it's been many years since I belonged to one. Not since we first moved here. I like the savings in time by working out at home -- although I know that I push harder in a group class.

    1. I like the challenge of doing my own thing at home; never been much of a gym-goer. But, indeed, there are so many at-home options these days, especially with the apps and YouTube.

  4. I feel there are even more options for workout at home versus outside. When I am outside the only thing I do is run, but at home, the options are almost overwhelming....lol Happy Friday! -M

  6. Not a workout person at all. I would prefer a gym because I do like machines and classes. I plan to go back to my small gym that has machines when it opens.

For now, I got my bike and the outdoor air to keep me active.

    1. I'm so glad I added the indoor bike to my arsenal this winter! To think it's been living in my basement for a few years and was being ignored LOL

  7. Like you said, there have never been more options for at-home workouts! I just did a strength training session with only bodyweight exercises... pushups, planks, walking lunges, one leg squats... it was hard! These are great tips.

    1. The bulk of my strength workouts are bodyweight resistance ones. They get the job done, and can be done almost anywhere.

  9. Its so good to have lots of indoor options! I am usually content with my treadmill and strength training, but sometimes I will use the bike or take an online class.

  10. I usually find that if I run on a treadmill, I do a higher intensity workout than If I run on the roads. I just want to get it over with so bad! :) Thanks for these wonderful tips and the HIIT workouts. I need to add some higher intensity to my fitness regime.

  11. I'm just so happy that I'm rarely (and by rarely I really mean never) stuck inside. Even in the heat, when it's 120 in the afternoon, it's possible to get out early (when it's only about 90).

  12. I love how you come up with so many great indoor activities. I just renewed my Peloton membership and know there are also many great options there too.
