A Seasonal 'Fession Fix

So, here we are again, back at the 'fessional for one last go-round in 2021.

You know the drill...we gather, we 'fess, and we move on, this time to a new year!

The 2021 holiday season has been like none other, at least in my world. Things were good, but things were just a bit...shall we say, weird.

Care to hear a few of my 'fessions?

Let me start by saying that I have failed as a blogger, a hostess and a mom. This was maybe the 20th (?) year I have hosted Christmas. I usually have my parents, my sister and our immediate family for Christmas dinner. I have to photofess this is the first year, ever, that I totally spaced off getting any pics.  Well, I did get a few nice pics of our tree, so all was not lost.

Next, let me say I embrace the holidays (and all things red and green). I fashionfess, though, it was nice, on December 26th, to not have to think about what to wear. I realize wearing the seasonal red and green is a self-imposed thing, and it's all on me, LOL. But, it's the holiday season! I think it spreads good cheer. If nothing else, I hope it elicits a smile and warm fuzzies from others (though maybe an eye roll when I'm out of range). None the less, it felt rather liberating to don the very non-holiday colors of neon orange and royal blue for my workouts the day after.

Since we're talking Christmas (or at least I am, LOL), I have to admit things were weird this year. With the hubs and I high-tailing it out of Iowa two days post-Christmas, we spent Christmas evening (and most of the next day) taking down all the decorations. Granted, I didn't put up as many Christmas decs this year, since I knew they'd all be coming down much earlier than usual. But, I have never, ever, taken down the Christmas tree on the day of. It was a total buzzkill. And, let me Christmas decfess, I know that's very much a first world problem, so I'll stop whining about it.

My right hip as been kind off and on with its crankiness recently. It's nothing painful, and it's certainly not keeping me bedridden. But, I carfess...two long days of car time did not do it any favors. Also, my long legs aren't exactly best friends with long car rides either. I know, I know...more first world probs. Moving on...

Finally, we arrived in Florida Tuesday afternoon, in time to suit up for the Cheez-It Bowl game, Wednesday evening, to cheer on the Iowa State Cyclones football team (against the Clemson Tigers). Most know we're Iowa Hawkeyes, though, and the Cyclones are our big intrastate rivals. I #Hawkeyefess that I did feel a little bit like a Cyclone poser, and may have snuck in some Iowa "contraband" to the stadium, via my one and only "stadium bag." Oh well, I'm not ashamed of supporting our rivals (as long as they're not playing us).

Anyways, those are my final 'fessions for 2021, and I'm all better. Let the new year begin...I'm ready for  you, 2022!

Do you have any 'fessions to share?  How was your holiday season this year? Do you feel compelled to dress in read and green this time of year? Ever supported your rival team, and dressed in their gear?

  1. There is something extremely soothing about being Jewish at this time of year. :)

I obviously never have problems with my legs in the car, although I've taken balls along to sit on when something's been cranky.

Enjoy that sunshine, Kim! Happy New Year!

    1. Car rides are just nasty, LOL. I'll share a few more details on Sunday, but I brought along a few things that complicated the ride (and my already compromised space).

  2. I do like to don my festive apparel on the runs this time of year. It's fun and it makes people smile.

    Have fun in Florida!

    1. Yes, we all need to do our part to spread the holiday cheer!

  3. I think it's so fun you dress in festive colours this time of year, but can also 100% see why it would also feel like a huge relief to no longer feel obligated (self-imposed, but still...it does feel like an obligation to yourself) to keep going with that post Christmas.

Also, I can't imagine taking the tree down Christmas Day! Definitely a buzzkill. My Mom always waited until New Year's Day. I just hate taking down the tree - it feels so "final" and it's the last connection to the cozy vibes of Christmas. I took down our little basement artificial tree yesterday, but I'm not sure when I'll summon the courage to dismantle the real one upstairs...

    1. I was almost in tears taking down the tree. It really feels so "final." I usually leave it up until mid-January because it's nice to just enjoy the beauty of it without all the pre-Christmas busyness to worry about.

  4. I runfess I have an awesome ugly Christmas sweater that I neglected to wear! My bad. I love that cute little photobomb! A couple of years ago our neighbors had their tree out on the curn late Christmas Eve. I couldn't imagine what the heck was going on until I learned they headed to Mexico on Christmas morning. Have so much fun on your snowbird trip! I am living vicariously thru you as we await yet another snow event! Happy New Year Kim!

    1. I heard the weather was pretty cold and slick, with an icky forecast for the weekend...

  5. I enjoy your commitment to the festive gear - I runfess that I don't own any...maybe I need to fix that?!

It's funny I totally forgot the photos this year too - not even the obligatory tree shot.

Enjoy your time in Florida! Happy New Year Kim!

    1. I was almost beside myself when I realized I had not taken any pics. Oh well, the memories were still nice ;-)

  6. My hips and hamstrings do not like long car rides or plane rides either. Check out all those great lower body stretch classes. I think that fact that you forgot the photo means you were so happy to be together. That's fantastic. Enjoy your sunny temps

    1. Thank you, Deborah ;-) Yes, we were busy having fun together, but I think I was also distracted with all the preparations still awaiting me for our trip. Oh well...moving on!

  7. Being in the car all day is one of the most physically taxing experiences that I know of. I runfess that I am jealous of your Florida winter break.

    1. The car is almost as annoying as a run (or bike ride) in the wind. Just saying ;-)

  8. My lower back always bothers me on long car rides.

Enjoy your stay in the warmer climate.

    Happy New Year!

  9. I have festive tops I made a point to wear every day for the past 2 weeks. Now that most of my work calls are on video, I was able to show them off to clients around the world. ;-)

I don’t have long legs, but my hips and butt get cranky on long car rides. We don’t usually stop along the way, but finding a way to walk when we arrive helps.

My husband likes to take the tree down on Jan 1. I think the year we went away for Christmas my daughter wanted us to put a tree up, so we put it up early and took it down when we got back. You will be glad to not have that chore when you get home.

    1. Fortunately, with Max along with us, we made a point of stopping every couple of hours. I like getting out of the car, though, and doing some stretches and a few push-ups!

  10. I agree that wearing festive clothing spreads goodwill and cheer! I didn't go all out like you did, but I did have a couple little touches, my favorite being my Grinch face mask. I wore it as much as possible during December, and people always commented on it- I definitely think things like that make life more fun.
Yes, I would HATE taking down the tree on Christmas Day! But you really had no choice. I'm with Elisabeth (above)... I'm dreading taking ours down.
Glad you made it to sunny Florida! And glad the Cheeze-It bowl went on as planned- a lot of games were canceled. We're excited to watch Baylor tomorrow night!!!

    1. Taking the tree(s) down so early was not fun...but kind of necessary, given our situation. The entire week feels weird with our traveling, so it feels like Christmas was a couple months ago already.

  11. Sitting for hours in a car is a nightmare.
On Monday, I spent 11.5 hours on a plane. We were fortunate that the flight was only a quarter full and we could stretch out across the seats. Enjoy Florida and soak in all the sun!

    1. Wow, that's a long flight! I would be so antsy! Car rides are tough, but at least we had the option to pull over, periodically.

  12. LOL - my dad supports MSU (my kid's school) as long as they aren't playing
    UW. Happy new year!

    1. Well, I totally support MSU, too (except when they play Iowa, LOL) because we lived there many years ago.

  13. Your abrupt Christmas kind of reminds me of my Thanksgiving this year- we traveled to NYC the day of the holiday and came home the same day and we ended up not having any proper dinner at our house when we came home - it just felt so anticlimactic!

I hope your hip feels better!

  14. Sitting on a car is not pleasant but sitting on a plane is worse!
Here we use to take the tree down on January 6th.
    Enjoy your time in Florida!

    1. I agree, air travel is far worse than car travel! We usually keep the tree up for a few weeks post-Christmas, but not this year.

    1. Thank you! AS you know, I love bright colors, so the festive season of Christmas is a fun one to dress the part ;-)

  16. Welcome to the Sunshine State. I hope you had a nice visit!

Our team pulled out of their bowl game, so I haven't been keeping up.

I dont necessarily wear red and green but I do try to wear festive stuff.

  17. I too failed on getting Christmas pics this year. Fortunately we celebrated again New Years Day with almost the same crew so I got a few then.
I don’t own much red or green (something I should remedy) and I completely forgot to wear my Christmas PJ’s this year too. :-(

  18. Like you, I love dressing in red and green for my workouts during December (I continue through the 31st, too) so no eye rolling from me! LOL
