Things that make you go Hmmmm...like another trip to the Runfessional.
Even with all things to be thankful for, there's still plenty that needs 'fessing, am I right? I mean, we're only human, myself included. It's best to get these things 'fessed and finished, so we can forge ahead into the holiday season.
Care to share a few 'fessions with Yours Truly?
If I may, I'll get things started...
I need to cycle-fess, that I've been logging a lot of time (and a lot of miles) on the bike, and have been loving every minute of it. Imagine my surprise when, upon finishing my early morning 10-miler on Monday, the 675K Cycling Badge (from Garmin) popped up. This challenge was to go from October 1 through the end of the year, and I completed the equivalent 419.5 miles on November 21...just over the halfway mark of the time allowance. What's even crazier is the fact that of those 419.5 miles, only 136 of them were "outdoor" miles. So yeah, my indoor bike is serving me well.
I spent most of Tuesday afternoon, this week, volunteering at packet pick-up for the Des Moines Turkey Trot. Even though I would be running in my own local Trot, I felt compelled to give back to the running community, and the DSM venue is a huge event (I actually ran it virtually, in 2020). Instead of t-shirts, participants get a fun hat every year. There were previous years' hats for sale at the merchandise center, and I hatfess, this "vintage" hat was even more cute than the 2022 event hat. I went to purchase it, and the gal said I could just have it as a token of thanks for my volunteer efforts. Well, okay then. I was good with that!
After last week's unusually cold weather, this week rewarded us with much warmer temps. I was able, for maybe the first time ever, to wear shorts for Thursday's turkey trot. I trot-fess, I much prefer the shorts over the full-length gear I usually have to wear for trotting on Thanksgiving morning!
Prior to heading over to the Trot, Thursday morning, I indulged in a short 6-mile ride (again on the indoor bike). This not only gave my legs a brief warm-up, but I also was surprised with another Garmin badge. Can I badge-fess, these little surprises are kind of fun? It's just ironic the Garmin badge was "earned" from doing the warm-up and not the actual event, LOL.
Finally, I have to FrIeNd-fess, it's always so much fun celebrating the love of fitness with so many like-minded peeps! We are many, we are one.
Whew! It feels good to get all those 'fessions disclosed and done! Onward! Let the holidays begin!
What would bring to the Runfessional? Any turkey trotting happening? Are you a fan of the Garmin badges, or do they pop-up and surprise you from time-to-time?
Nice job earning all the fun badges! And what a great hat! I did my share of biking in the pain cave during that cold snap and I have no guilt! Haha!
ReplyDeleteThe indoor bike has turned into a must-have for me when the outdoor temps (and conditions) are not bike-friendly.
DeleteI love a race that gives a hat as swag! Something I can actually use. We have to get on the road a little early -- too early for a turkey trot. It was quite cold in the morning though -- but great weather for a race! Much better than many years!
ReplyDeleteThat's also a really nice thank you for volunteering.
These event hats are really cute! I did the virtual race in 2020 just for the hat (and matching neck gaiter) because our local trot had to go virtual as well. That hat actually had a turkey face on it!
DeleteHow fun to earn all those Badges! Which Garmin do you have? Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI have the Forerunner 255. I got it just before the 4th of July (my other one died). It's taken some time to get used to it, and I still don't utilize all the bells and whistles, but I really like it!
DeleteGreat job volunteering! One of my bike path/trail friends ran the Des Moines TT yesterday! She said it was really hilly.
ReplyDeleteI think the DSM route goes from downtown to the Capitol and back, which sits on a nice steep hill. Been there, ran that, LOL.
DeleteThat Turkey Trot hat is so cute! Great job earning the cycling badge! I agree that Thanksgiving badge was a nice little surprise :)
ReplyDeleteThere are several challenges I'm aware of, and I'm actually "participating" in them, but the cycling one was a 3-month one, so it had slipped my mind. I didn't realize all those miles on the bike were adding up so quickly!
DeleteI runfess that I only use my Garmin for races and I don't notice any badges.
ReplyDeleteStill indoor bike remains untouched.
Every time I volunteer I realize how it is to give back to the running community. Volunteering is not easy.
I love that we all blog but got out there to run or race on Turkey day!!
I'm only aware of the badges because all of my Garmin activity is synced to the Garmin Connect app. If the Challenges and badges are accessible on the watch itself, I have yet to find them there, LOL.
DeleteThat is a very cute hat! I wish more races gave away things other than t-shirts (I didn't even take the shirt at my race yesterday, because i knew it would go straight into my Goodwill bag.)
ReplyDeleteNice job on all those cycling miles! Yes, Garmin is funny like that, giving you all sorts of surprise rewards.
I often times "forget" the event shirts at packet pick-up because they're either ugly or ill-fitting (usually both).
Deletealways feels good to volunteer and give back. Wow on the cycling miles! That is a lot of pedaling
ReplyDeleteI wish we had more local races to volunteer for, but such is the life of small town Iowa. Des Moines is about 45 minutes away, so I thought it wasn't too far to go to volunteer for such a big event.
DeleteThat is a really cute hat! I never check for Garmin badges — I really never check the Garmin app much at all.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the Garmin app daily because (for me) it's much more user-friendly. I'm getting more adept with the watch itself, but I still hit the wrong buttons at inopportune times.
DeleteThe best weather that I've ever had for a TT was short sleeves and capris, never shorts weather.
ReplyDeleteThe Garmin badges are always a surprise. The last one that I remember was the Valentine's Day one. The hubs and I both got it.
