‘Fessions (with a side of thanks)

Well, here we are again.

Back at the ‘Fessional, ready to come clean on a few things and usher in the final month of 2024. Yikes, how did we get here so quickly?

Allow me to begin…

First off, let me tell you about my change in attitude regarding treadmill activity. It’s no secret I detested spending time with Milly at my other house. She lived in the mud room, directly under a heat vent, so time in her company was pretty miserable. Being out in the garage, though, has been working well thus far. The treadmill selfies are a challenge (can you say boring?), but I thankfullfess that I’m grateful to have found a nice fit for the time being.

Have I mentioned the limited time I have in the morning, due to my work schedule with my new job? Assuming an evening hair wash  routine has been a valuable timesaver in getting ready for the office most mornings. Recently, though, I lost track of the “day count” and realized my hair had gone five days between shampoos (yeah, #eww). Let me thankfulfess that I have no shame in disguising less-than-clean hair with dry shampoos, whimsical messy buns and chic ponytails. No judging, LOL.

I have been a secret Wordle junkie for awhile now. Not too long ago, I got really lucky throwing out five new (very random) letters in a fit of desperation. Imagine my surprise to see that very random word was, indeed, the winning word of the day! Yeah, I thankfulfess that was a pretty sweet surprise.

In the busyness of the pre-holiday prepping and excitement, I totally forgot that it was almost time for the Runners World Winter Run Streak to get underway. This year’s Streak is going to be tricky to facilitate, given my long workdays and limited availability for noontime lunch runs. I may be taking some of those streak runs to the ‘mill in the wee hours or post-workday time slot. Sigh. Although it’s not my preference, I’ll thankfulfess it, here and now, that I’m glad it is a feasible option given my circumstances.

Finally, I was on the fence with my Thanksgiving plans, as to whether I’d be hosting or traveling. In other words, I was unsure if I’d be at my sister’s place (in my former town), or at my house (in my new town). Thus, it was a mystery which turkey trot I’d be running: the one I’d organized for the past 12 years (now under a new team of organizers), or the Des Moines Trot (a 15-minute drive away). Alas, I wound up hosting the family dinner, and ventured to downtown Des Moines, Thanksgiving morning, and ran five miles amongst a huge crowd of fellow trotters (I even snagged a 3rd place AG).

Whew! That was a lot to let go of, but I’m ‘Fession free for another month now. All is (again) well.

Your turn… do you have any ‘Fessions that need attention? Wordle: yay or nay? Have you done any treadmill time yet this season? Did you go trotting on Thursday?

I’m linking this with Marcia and the Runfessions linkup.

  1. Wow — congrats on your turkey trot! That’s fantastic!
I would die on a tread under a heat vent. I crack my basement door to get an extra shot of cool air when I’m on the treadmill.

  3. I do Wordle every morning but I'm not a sharer.

I wimped out on the Turkey trot. I wasn't in the mood for driving in rain and snow .. got FOMO when I saw pics of the 7k others who did.

No I don't have a tm (and don't plan on buying one) ... and paused my gym membership so I guess it's running outside or skipping the run...

  6. In both my single gal house and my married gal house things have worked out so that the treadmill is right smack dab under a heating vent. Back when I was running heavy duty I swear that our heater would always kick on right as I was getting ready to start my workout. Yes I have a big ol' fan in front of the mill, but sheesh, it was hard. I can see how a garage treadmill would be the way to go in winter.

Team Wordle! I've had your same experience a few times where I'm a few guesses in and have no clue what the word is and just type in something random that turns out to be the answer. Since we're in the 'fessional, I'd better admit that a few days ago the word was witch, and one of my guesses was a similar word with a different first letter. Do you have a go-to first guess? I don't, I just type whatever comes into my head and take it from there.

  7. Congrats on snagging 3rd place in your age group! That's especially impressive since it was such a large race. I used to do Wordle, but got out of the habit (just like with my Spanish lessons). Oops!

  8. Way to go on your AG award! that's awesome! Three of our local turkey trots sold out, so I'm glad we were able to make the plans and register so we didn't miss out! No treadmill time for me. You know I'm not about that life. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
