Well, here we are again.
How is it the summer season is already breezing (practically) past us? It seems like we were just at the ‘Fessional, coming clean on a few (or several) transgressions and whatnot. Yet, it’s time to partake, again, and wipe our soles (and souls) clean.
If you don’t mind, I’ll get the party started…
If we were dropping ‘fessions, I’d start with the weather. Admittedly, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the summer season! The daylight is wonderful. The flowers blooming, the birds singing and scent of fresh-cut grass all make me smile. It’s no surprise I love the heat that comes with summer as well. That said, this sudden heat wave has been a doozy! The triple-digit feels-like conditions, and extreme humidity, have left me feeling tired and my hair droopy, LOL. A little bit of an acclimation would have been most appreciated. At least it’s not snowing, so all is well.

The weather conditions from last weekend… |
If we were dropping ‘fessions, I’d admit I always find it a paradox that the Summer Solstice signals the (gradual) decline of daylight. Although the extra daylight will be here for several more months, and we won’t notice a significant difference for awhile, it’s still a painful reminder just how short the summer season really is (at least in the Midwest). All the more reason to get outside, everyday, and enjoy every waking moment of it.

Glistening and glowing |
If we were dropping ‘fessions, I’d gush over how good it feels to be back on the bike trail(s)! The spin bike gets quite mundane, and also quite heated (even with a cooling fan nearby). The great outdoors, though, are my place. Even with the recent heat, the weather conditions are much more tolerable on wheels. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

On a rare ride with Gustavas (remember him?) |
If we were dropping ‘fessions, I’d chat a bit more about my love of summer biking. Last weekend, I had a 3-day biking streak going. All three rides were in the extreme heat, with over-the-top humidity, and amidst some insane wind. Saturday saw 25 miles, Sunday had 29 miles, and Monday logged another 16. And I loved (almost) every minute, and mile, of it.

At the turn-around break, on Monday |
If we were dropping ‘fessions, I’d have to tell you about a small little biking splurge. Last year, when Barb and I rode in the Baccoon Ride, I spotted a tank jersey at the Brickyard bar. I resisted the urge to buy it then, but gave into temptation and brought it home with me two weeks ago. Hey, it’s been a couple years since I’ve added anything new to my biking wardrobe, so there was very little guilt, LOL . It’s already been christened, on a recent ride.
I'm linking this with Marcia for the monthly Runfessions link-up
Let's fess up! I confess that the heat has me very grateful for my treadmill, AC, and fan. But I do enjoy getting out to walk and there have been some bike rides.
ReplyDeleteI approve of getting the biking shirt. I can tell that it is going to get a lot of use.
The heat was crazy this week! Good for you on getting on the bike ;-)
DeleteYou got some great miles in last weekend, and in that heat! I really like your new biking tank! You wouldn't like the morning temps here in southern Utah - mid-50's. It warms up nicely into the 80's and by 10'ish so you'd like it after then. My hair is LOVING the low humidity!
ReplyDeleteMy hair has pretty much been in a messy bun or ponytail all week, LOL
DeleteYou nailed it, Kim! Summer really does fly, especially when the heat hits hard and leaves you feeling wiped out. The paradox of loving summer but dreading how fast it slips away is real. Props for powering through those brutal rides in triple-digit heat!
ReplyDeleteI think you totally deserved that new jersey!
Keep making the most of every sweaty, sunny mile!
Thanks, Catrina!! I’m getting outside everyday despite the heat and humidity. I refuse to stay inside and look out the window at the summer fun ;-)
DeleteIt too am a bit wistful when the daylight starts to decline. Summer slips away way too fast. That said, this heat is not my favorite, and it makes enjoying the outdoors challenging. Nice job on the bike!
ReplyDeleteThe humidity really spiked this week! Even I have noticed a little “bonus” fatigue as a result.
DeleteI love the extra daylight on both sides of the day but this heat is just oppressive. WE have a few wicked thunderstorms too. I really used to love summer cycling outdoors-why did I stop doing it?
ReplyDeleteI’m SO grateful to be on the bike outdoors! Even with the perspiration flying, it feels good to be pedaling in the sunshine.
DeleteWe had quite a heatwave this week, but it seems to have broken for now.
ReplyDeleteI runfess I’ve been enjoying my tread and Peloton in my basement A/C!
We did get a brief break in the heat this morning (Friday), but it crept back up by lunchtime.
DeleteMy whole life is a heatwave (at least from April-November.) I agree it's much more fun on a bike than on foot- but I've been taking it to the treadmill. That's MY story and I'm sticking to it!
ReplyDeleteWith all the cycling you've been doing, you deserve a new tank! I can see why you wanted that one- it's really cute.
Oh, and while I WILL be appreciating the weather more in the winter months, I do enjoy the long days, and was a little sad to think that they'll be getting shorter and shorter now. Oh well, I guess you can't have everything!
At least the days will still be pretty long for awhile. It’s just a bummer to think of the longest day already being behind us…
DeleteThe heatwave hit here hard this week! I'm grateful for the break this weekend - I'm craving more outdoor time!
ReplyDeleteOur forecast is still looking pretty warm this weekend, but I’m alright with that since it won’t be quite as extreme as last weekend.
DeleteWe absolutely had a heat wave, and it was brutal. I realize that our grass doesn't even smell the same. I remember the smell of cut grass up north and it was lovely, but it doesn't hit the same here. Must be the type of lawns we have.
ReplyDeleteCute singlet! I love it!
You know I"m always outside, no matter what season it is!
