Feelin’ Good, Feelin’ Fine

Another week of Spring, and things have been feelin’ pretty stellar.

Even after that cold, windy, and hilly Drake half, as well as the intense Grand Blue Mile, all is well. There have been no traces of the DOMS, which is a valid cause for celebration. And,  although the wind has been rather naughty, the weather has been seasonally pleasant.

Before I get to the nitty gritty deets from the week, welcome to the Weekly Run Down!

I love hosting this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner)! If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 8:00AM (EST) on Sundays and remains open through noon on Monday. We love reading about everyone's weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blog as well...please don't link-drop & dash ;-)

Anyways, here’s what went down in my little world of fitness, fun, and whatnot this week:

A very simple Sunday…
After a somewhat busy Saturday, I was ready for some low-key action. The morning started with 10 easy-paced miles on the bike, followed by a short walk with Max, before heading to church. I also got out for a lunchtime walk, then met a friend to see the Michael Jackson movie (ooh, it was SO good!).

Never miss a Monday…
It was another damp and chilly morning, so I opted for keeping the cardio inside in the early hours. Twenty minutes (approximately 2-1/2 “miles”) on the elliptical -with the weighted vest- had me ready for the day.

There was more walking (over lunch and with Max, after work). It took a lot of self talk, but I hit the streets for a couple of miles in the running shoes (also after work). Ugh, that wind was pure evil!

Taking things easy on Tuesday…
Low-impact fitness was on the agenda, so it was back to the bike in the basement (seven miles). I also snuck in a short upper-body strength session before the workday commenced. I was able to get my usual lunchtime walk done. After work, I got lucky and missed the rain (but not the persistent wind) for a trip around the block with Max, and a couple bonus miles on my own.

Woot-Woot Wednesday…
Another 4:45AM meet-up, under a clear sky. The 47-degree temps had us guessing on what to wear (suffice it to say neither of us got it right, LOL). After the routine 3-miler, I decided to do a bonus fourth mile after getting home.

A busy Thankful Thursday…
It was business as usual for the weekly cardio chat session with Deb. I was all set to head outdoors, for a walk, but quickly decided to join her on the bike instead. I wasn’t “feeling” the cold weather and was at a loss on the layering game anyways. I pedaled for 15 miles, then hopped off the bike and grabbed some weights after we parted ways.

Instead of cueing-up a routine 10-minute workout, I bit the bullet and found an interesting 20-minute upper-body one to tackle. Gotta love the burn! Also, there may have been a full moon run that evening (see below).

A low-key Fitness Friday…
With a potential long run on-deck for Saturday, and tempo-ish paced run the evening prior, I thought it best to keep the fitness on the low-impact spectrum. Refusing to wear that purple winter jacket anymore, I grabbed a puffer vest (sort of the lesser of two evils) for a brisk 2-mile walk amidst the sunrise. There also was the daily lunch walk and a loop around the block with Max after work.

Long Run (and then some) Saturday…
Brrrr, it was 42F upon wake-up, but the forecast was showing warmer temps a few hours later. I made the command decision to hit the bike (yet again) for 10 miles. I also found a challenging 20-minute glutes/legs workout (Peloton) to occupy my time as well. After a pancake fix, I finally got outside around 10:30. I had high ideals of doing an 8-mile run, but was willing to settle for 6-7 miles if things went south (you know, after the biking and lower-body work). Amazingly, from the first 20 strides, everything felt great. No aches, no stiffness, no muscle fatigue. I just let my legs go, and they did me justice. This 8-miler was SO much easier than anticipated. The splits were pretty consistent (and somewhat fast), and the sunshine was everything! I like it when that happens!

 …and what’s happening on Sunday?
With a somewhat busy day in the works, the fitness will need to happen in the wee hours (and that’s the way I like it anyways). It won’t be anything grandiose, due to Saturday’s busyness, but there will probably be some sunrise walking at the very least.

So, all in all, it was a great week! Running saw 14 miles. Walking was legit, with 20 miles. Biking logged 42 miles in the saddle. The strength work was consistent (and the sessions were a bit longer than usual, which brought some good muscle burning). Feelin’ good, feelin’ fine!

In case you missed out, here’s what went down on the blog:

In other news:

Friday Fashion Flair. Even though we’re more than a solid month into eh spring season, Old Man Winter keeps delaying his departure. There wasn’t any of the white stuff, but we come dangerously close to frosty conditions Friday morning. My solution was to brighten-up the outfit and pretend it was warmer than what it actually felt. A solid punch of pink works wonders!

As mentioned, there was a full moon run on Thursday! Although the official appearance of the Pink Moon was Friday evening, my schedule had other plans…thus the run happened (technically) 24 hours i advance. In my book, the moon looks pretty much just as full the day prior and the day after. This run didn’t happen until after 9:00, though, because there was a a lot of cloud cover, but it all dissipated in a timely manner…just for me (?).

So, there you have it: another week all wrapped-up. It’s not every week that every workout feels so good. I’m quite grateful the recovery time from the Drake races was fairly quick and, most of all, pain-free!

How was your week? Did you catch any of the sunrises? How about the full moon? Any races on the roster, this weekend or in the near future?
