October's Ultimate Coffee Date

Ahhh, here we are again...

Time to gather for some chatter. Time to share a few stories. Time to reflect on the past few weeks. And time to enjoy a cup of whatever beverage you so choose.

It's always fun to get together and share some conversation, laughs and an occasional hug.

Shall we get started?

This weekend has me feeling all kinds of excitement! The hubs, myself, and our friend, Paul, are headed to the Baltimore area (very, very early Friday morning). We're hooking up with our son, and we'll be cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Friday evening, as they take on the Maryland Terrapins for what we hope is an exciting game of football. This isn't our first group adventure to a Hawkeye away game...the four of us drove to the Big House, in Ann Arbor, in October of 2019 when the Michigan Wolverines hosted our favorite team.

Also, there's the Kickoff to Kinnick 5K! I thought it only fitting to register for this event and run it virtually, since I wouldn't be able to run the live race in Iowa City on Saturday. We've done this race a few times before (in 2017, 2018, and 2019), and it supports such a great cause...the Stead Family Children's Hospital at the University of Iowa. BTW, that's the hospital that all the people wave to, from Kinnick Stadium, during the Iowa home games.

I'll be repping the UofI with one of my previous K2K5K shirts

This past week, Momma N granted me a return to summer. After a rather abrupt intro to Fall (our temps plummeted, literally 30-degrees overnight, on the official last day of Summer), this week saw a resurgence of summer heat. Boy, did it ever feel nice to wear the summer gear again!

reunited with the heat of summer...

One thing that did not revert back, though, was the daylight. Ugh, now that we're on the dark side of the Equinox, things are looking pretty ...dark. My #5at5 runs are in complete, total darkness now, with no semblance of a sunrise until well after I've returned back home. It is what it is, but it is quite the buzzkill. Yet another reminder that Summer is far too short of a season in my locale. Whomp whomp.

the "city lights" still look beautiful in the pre-dawn hours, though

Care to hear how my September played out? Not too shabby, actually. Even with the scaled-back running (in the early part of the month), I'm very satisfied with the 78 miles logged. All the hip/groin stuff that was harassing me in August has vacated the premises. Walking was on-point. And, it's a given that biking dominated the miles. No regrets; no complaints.

Finally, since this is a coffee-themed gathering of sorts, I can't resist sharing this little meme I created a couple years ago. Wednesday was National Coffee Day (according to social media, at least). Most know of my futile efforts to become a coffee-drinker...thankfully, I have running to serve as my "coffee" on those early mornings. No regrets or complaints about that either.

Anyways, that's enough about me.

How about you? Anything you'd share if we were gathered 'round a table with mugs in hand?

**Fair warning*** Since I will be either on a plane, or in transit to one, Friday morning, I may be delayed in reading/commenting/replying to the blogs within the link-up. My apologies, but I promise to sneak in some reading after we land, and throughout the afternoon.

Since it's the first weekend of the month, I'm linking this with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date.

I'm also linking this with MichelleReneeDarleneJenn and Zenaida for the Fit Five Friday Link-up.

  1. Safe travels and have fun at the game! My biking friend Betsy invited us over for happy hour this evening so I won't be able to watch as much of the game as I normally would #ilovecollegefootball. Thank you so much for telling me about the virtual race this weekend!

  2. Have so much fun at the "away" game! I'm still basking in the afterglow of Georgia Tech's victory over UNC in the Mercedes Benz stadium last week. Totally unexpected and I'll take it!

  5. Have fun at the game! I can't believe it's October already! We've exchanged the summer humidity for Fall's early darkness 😀. I'm glad the weather is nice though. I did a 5k trail run over the weekend and the temp was just perfect for running.

  8. Enjoy the game!
A lot of miles in September.
I made the decision not to log anymore the miles while walking, otherwise I would tend to increase the mileage without enjoying the landscape; on this way I can also take some pictures.

    1. Most of the time, I walk routes that I'm familiar with so I already know the distance. I powerwalk them, but I do pause if I spot someting that needs to be photographed ;-)

So glad your hip/groin issue has resolved. My Achilles still limits me, but at least it doesn’t have me totally sidelined.

  14. Hope you had so much fun!

We haven't seen much in the line of light changes, yet, so not even that feels too much like fall. I'm glad you got a little more summer!
