The ‘Fessions are Falling

So, here we are.  More than a month (officially) into the fall season.

The thing is, it’s been feeling more like late summer than fall, and it’s been rather nice! While I’m in no hurry for the true fall to arrive, I do know it’s inevitable. Sigh…

Alas, it’s also time for another gathering ‘round the ‘Fessional as we prepare for another month’s arrival. As always, I have a few ‘fessions to bring forward.

Here goes…

Most know I ran a favorite race, the IMT Des Moines Half Marathon, last weekend. Without doing a head count of my medals from years past, I think this was my 13th time running those 13.1 miles (I’ve also run the 26.2, the 5K, and the 5-mile on various occasions). This year they introduced some big changes to the route, all for the better! Although I felt pretty good throughout the race, the final three miles were tough After getting back home, a couple hours later, I totally crashed on the couch, before even getting in shower. Yes, I was that exhausted. Let me runfess, I sincerely felt like I’d run triple the distance. What’s worse, it wasn’t until Wednesday that my body felt back to normal, LOL. Any regrets? Absolutely none!

But don’t I look energetic approaching the finish line?

Speaking of unexpected aches and pains, let me tell you a bit more about my recent painting excursion. I have done a lot of painting in every house I’ve lived (in my adult years, that is). My new house now has a freshly-painted kitchen, living room, dining room, downstairs powder room, upstairs bath, and a master bedroom (with an adjoining bath). I did all of this over the course of 11 days. The new colors all look great, but I have to paintfess this undertaking was more of a muscle strain than I could have imagined. My quads took a beating with all the ladder-climbing and “step-ups” on the various ottomans.

With the dark mornings, and my recent taper for the IMT DSM 13.1, I recently resurrected the elliptical.I don't think I’d used it since moving (late March). I gotta sweatfess, I’d forgotten just how intense the cardio is on that piece of equipment.

My basement came painted in the same lovely (boring) beige as all the other rooms upstairs

This may sound silly, but I have never bought a car on my own. Wow, is that an all-engulfing (and stressful) ordeal. I’ve been doing all kinds of big girl things this past year, and now I can add Car Hunting (and buying) to my Big Girl resume’! Let me stressfess it loud and clear: My big girl panties are feeling kind of threadbare with all of the adulting that’s happened, LOL. Stay tuned, there’s even more I’ll be sharing soon.

Since I’m talking about adult things, like spending money on big ticket items (you know, a house and a car, for starters), did I mention the death of my laptop? Yeah, this happened about a month ago, and it has had me blogging via my phone as a result. But looky here, there’s a new member I’ve added to the family until I have time to deal with another major purchase. My sis spotted a big sale on QVC, and I chose to take advantage. This iPad-10 came with a Bluetooth keyboard, case, and all kinds of accessories. I gotta techfess,  this little toy is fun and pretty user-friendly. I should have “adopted” her a long time ago.

Isn’t she pretty? Maybe I should give her a name?

Whew! It feels oh-so-fine to have those ‘fessions off my shoulders!

Your turn: Do your have anyfessions to share? Any bigadultingthings happening in your life?

  1. Yikes on blogging from your phone! I seriously don't think that I could do it. Hey compared to a house and a car, computers have a relatively small price tag and minimal high pressure sales tactics.

I runfess that I've always pinched my pennies on electronics until recently. I leaped from the iphone 8 to the 16 without batting an eye. I was waiting for the new model to come out so that the iphone 15's price would go down, which it did, but when it came time to buy I was just like "I'll find another way to save $200" and went for the bright new shiny thing. And you know what - it feels good!

    1. Actually, a new phone is also on the list of must-haves, LOL. I’m getting by with the one I have for the time being, but it will updating/replacing in the next few months.

  2. I'll bet your house looks amazing! Whenever I paint, I feel it in my neck and shoulders.
I agree with Birchie- I don't know if I could blog from my phone. I can barely send readable texts. You're doing a good job of it!
Your race sounds fun- you must have pushed yourself pretty hard!

    1. Yeah, the phone blogging is doable, but far from ideal. Desperate times, LOL!

  3. My hubby is the car expert so I get it...

My laptop is ancient... I do most things on my hone and use a work laptop for work.

I ran 20 miles last weekend... I felt fine after but then a few days later, I felt like I got hit by a cement truck.

    1. I relied on a lot of input from my gal friends, and Jim gave me a lot of things to consider as well. UGH. SO glad that “life event” is over for now.

  4. I concur the painting is a big endeavor and like I said, I’m impressed with how much you have done. I’m so happy for you that you are “reinventing” yourself and finding new power in your independence. Enjoy your new iPad that is what is I use now for everything

  5. Great job on the half-marathon! It looks like you had perfect weather, too.
Ha, I could definitely not blog from my phone - I blogfess that I can't even comment from my phone. I need to sit at my desk at my laptop to focus properly. Speaking of which, I really like your iPad setup!

    1. I definitely prefer a laptop/desktop over the phone, but I made do (somehow) out of necessity. The weather for the half marathon was perfect, in my opinion (warm for the season!).

  6. Way to go on that half!
Blogging from your phone is STRONG! I will sometimes add a photo or a paragraph in a pinch, but not to do the whole thing! I'm glad you have a better system in place!

  7. Nice job on the 13.1...and the car...and the painting! All huge undertakings! Before I was married I had a car salesman tell me to "bring my husband in" before he'd negotiate. Let's just say that's the last time he saw me. Ha!
