A quick sneak peek at Spring?
Please, and thank you! Although I am well aware the true winter temps and conditions will return (probably with a vengeance), I’ll take any reprieve from the extreme cold I can get.
After a very cold start, the week ended with a major upswing in terms of temps. Of course, the wind still kept its presence known, but the great outdoors felt oh-so-much improved.
Besides, it was nice saying goodbye to Winter for few days….
Anyways, before I get into the deets of the Spring-like week, welcome to the
Weekly Run Down!i love hosting this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner)! If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 8:00AM (EST) on Sundays and remains open through noon on Monday. We love reading about everyone's weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blog as well...please don't link-drop & dash ;-)
Anyways, here’s what went down this week in my little corner of the universe:
Sunday - Still winter-like conditions…
The morning began with a quick stair workout:
*10 flights double stepped
*10 flights single-stepped
*10 push-ups
**repeat two more times —> 60 total flights and 30 total push-ups
Then it was off to volunteer at the running club’s Groundhog Grind Trail Run. Brrr, it was cold and windy, so I was ecstatic to be the designated mascot. That groundhog costume was warm and toasty amidst the wind and newly-fallen snow.
Never Miss a Monday…
The early morning temps were still cold, but the wind was mild. I made the command decision to go for a 2-mile walk (complete with the weighted vest). The day also included a very cold 2.5-mile walk, in the very cold skywalk, over lunch.
After a quick walk with Max, I changed into running gear and hit the streets for a couple miles. The temps were still cold, but the wind was MIA. So yeah, this was a nice outing!
Taking things easy on Tuesday
Waking up with some stiffness, I thought the elliptical was a wise cardio option, along with a short upper-body strength workout (Peloton). There was another cold 2.5-mile walk over lunch. Brrr.
Wednesday - more early morning fun
The wee hour temps were cold, but the wind was calm, so the 4:45AM run was on. It’s really amazing how “warm” those cold temps can feel when he wind isn’t a factor.
Nothing too grandiose going on in the morning other than 12 miles on the bike.
The late afternoon, though, was a different story. The temps hit the low-50F’s, which felt almost like Spring to me. I got out for three fabulous miles, and ran them with progressively faster splits. Ahhh, if only those conditions could stick around until Summer arrives…
Finally Friday
It sounded like a tornado outside, upon wake-up, with the 15mph wind. So, it was back to the basement for more time on the bike (12 miles) and upper-body strength. I also walked a couple miles over the noon hour (and the skywalk didn’t feel as cold as in recent weeks!
A Sensational Sunny Saturday!
I took a pass on running (the TFL region was feeling a bit stiff), so I hit the bike for 15 miles, then headed out for a coffee meet-up with some gal pals. The afternoon included a crazy windy 2-mile walk.
…and what’s on-deck for Sunday?
I’m hoping to get out for a short run, but will probably start the morning on the stairway. Hey, that’s been my Sunday morning routine for all of 2026, thus far, and if it ain’t broke…you get the picture, LOL.
So, the week played-out in a good way. Running wasn’t stellar, but substantial with eight miles. Walking had 17 miles. Biking had 39 miles. A few strength sessions. Yadda yadda yadda.
In case you missed out, here’s what went down on the blog:
In other news:
Friday Fashion Flair. The first Friday in February is National Wear Red Day, bringing awareness to heart health (especially for women). I know a lot of people, women and men alike, who have been afflicted with heart disease. They’re constantly in my thoughts and prayers, and I believe in showing my support not only to them, but to everyone affected by heart disease and its impact.
Can I just say how nice it is to see the sunrise on my morning commute now? Driving home, in full daylight, is also a much-missed luxury, and I’m so glad to have that back!
So, that’s my week all wrapped up and tied with a pretty bow. How was yours? Any hint of a weather warm-up? Spring race training? Weekly goals met?
Nice job on your workouts, Kim! Absolutely no hints of spring in Virginia where the feels like was in the negatives all day today, but I'm in sunny Florida where it does feel like spring!
ReplyDelete50 degrees?! We hit a balmy 20 this week finally - no spring here yet! And lots of snow still around.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to make the most of it!
What is this 50 degrees you speak of? We haven't been out of the 20s yet...My student and I both were wearing red on Friday and we had no idea it was national wear red day. Go us!
ReplyDeleteNo signs of spring here at all except that there is more daylight. We are in negative feels like this morning and not a fan at all. How cute are you in your mascot outfit!!
ReplyDeleteYou volunteering as the groundhog mascot is hilarious! It must have been a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteNow I hope the 50F temps come back and stay for you a bit longer. You deserve more sunshine miles!!
That's funny, we both saw low 50s this week. It even felt warm to us after our dip down into the 30s! Also, hilarious that you were the groundhog. GREAT choice for a freezing cold day.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a nice mix of workouts this week. Tell that TFL to behave!!!
No peaking here. We're in a deep freeze with no end in sight.
ReplyDeleteWell, for me there is. I'm going to Fla on Wed.
My runs and races have been cancelled. What can you do when it's -25 wind chill??
50F is good early spring weather! I'm glad you got some relief from the bitter cold. Long may it continue! It's been around the same temperatures here, with and without wind and rain.
ReplyDeleteThat groundhog costume is so cute!
Too bad the 50s will be going away but those temps do feel like spring for sure! I saw on the local news that the temps here in Colorado are 20 warmer than the norm. Not great for the skiing industry!!
ReplyDeleteI love your groundhog costume. Bonus that it kept you warm too!
The low 50s do sound balmy! It’s hard to believe I ran in shorts in January when I haven’t even walked Scooby for a few weeks now!
ReplyDeleteLoved your red outfit on Friday!
I applaud you for getting out in that cold weather. 50s sounds perfect to me ;)
ReplyDeleteBrrrr! But you did it! The wind can really make or break things when it comes to spending time outdoors.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, you had a great week, with lots of variety. Love your Friday fashion as well. I very rarely wear red, but it looks great on you, and for a good cause.
