How is it that we’re already back at the ‘Fessional?
Time certainly does fly, and the ‘fessions never seem to deplete themselves. The month of April was no exception. As we know, it’s best to free our running soles (and human souls) by coming clean.
Shall we get this ‘fession party stared? Read on…
First-off, I have a faux panicfession. I frequently wake-up before my alarm. Call me lucky, LOL. On a recent Thursday morning, though, I woke up an entire hour before said alarm. I was meeting Deb (virtually) for one of our weekly early morning bike rides and thought I’d overslept. I flew out of the bed, and started getting dressed and brushed my teeth…then noticed my bathroom clock showed the actual time. Apparently, I’d hit the wrong button (accidentally resetting my clock) when I set my alarm the evening prior. So, I readjusted the clock’s time and went back to bed. Geesh.

Time to ride…literally |
Next I’d tell you about my new “kids,” the recently acquired 20# dumbbells. It was quite the workout just buying them. They were stacked on a shoulder-level shelf in the store. Mind you, I’m a tall gal, so I don’t know how accessible these would be to those of average (or even shorter) height. Also, they were stacked in such a manner it was very difficult to lift and “slide” them off the shelf. I then had to carry them from the back of the store to the front, and wait my turn at the check-out. Oh, and let’s not forget the trek back to my car. All of this without a shopping cart, LOL. I strenghfess, that mini strength session (with the “farmer’s carries” and intermittent “static holds”) nearly took my breath away.

Can you see them? On the left? |
I have also been releasing some OCD tendencies in the past few weeks. For example, I’ve given up on tracking my walks with Max. The constant starting and stopping and sniffing and marking and surging were wreaking havoc on my sanity as I’d try to start/stop my Garmin every time he’d need to pause his walking. The truth is, I know the distance of most of the routes we walk anyways. I’m still logging those (approximate) miles, they’re just no longer showing up on my Garmin (via the walk setting). I know the steps are still there, so I can MaxWalkfess I’m fine with everything.
Speaking of my Garmin, there was another bike ride incident with Deb that needs disclosing. I hopped on the bike and started pedaling without starting my Garmin. Psych! Thankfully, I hadn’t been riding very long (or very far) when I realized this faux pau. I Garminfess I may have altered the stats, after the fact, on Garmin Connect. Shhhh!
Finally, we all probably know Tuesday, April 22nd, was Earth Day. In years past, I have always done a plogging run or walk, picking-up trash along the sidewalks, streets or trails. Well, the day sort of got away from me. It was a friend’s birthday, so I may have played hooky that afternoon and gone for a 15-mile bike ride (no regrets!). Then, I had the Grand Blue Mile in the early evening (Oof, that was tough!). It wasn’t until I got back home, around 8:00PM, that I realized I had not yet done my Earth Day duty (Oops!). Max needed a walk, and my legs were craving a recovery walk, so I grabbed a bag and we got it done. I even sorted the recyclable plastic from the rubbish. Whew, let me garbagefess, it felt good to do my small part in service to our planet.
Whew! I guess that’s enough ‘fessing for now. Onward to May!
How about you...anything that needs ‘fessing among friends?
I’m linking this with Marcia and the Runfessions linkup.
Great job on honouring Earth Day with plogging, despite a busy schedule! And forgetting to start your Garmin is the worst, ha!
ReplyDeleteHow did the Grand Blue Mile go?
I was glad to get the Earth Day duty done! Gran Blue Mile went better than anticipated…2nd place AG (and three seconds faster than last year).
DeleteYes, if you're a runner and a dog owner then you know the exact distance of every walk in your neighborhood, and that's just a fact. I went through a phase where I recorded every single walk, but I got out of that a long time ago. I don't record dog walks or strolls around the 'hood anymore, but I do record all of my run walks, hikes, and treadmill workouts. If I was going to give something up, it would be the treadmill workouts. I just use the cardio option to record them, and I do absolutely nothing with the data.
ReplyDeleteYay for 20# dumbbells! Bonus points since you had to "earn" them by getting them off the high shelf.
The 20# dumbbell acquisition was a major production!
DeleteI runfess I saw a group doing some plogging as I drove home from work, but I did none of my own. My bad. I agree the "undocumented" workouts just don't feel right. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteYeah, there’s a lot of walking that isn’t documented via Garmin (except for the step count)…but I’m slowly getting over it, LOL.
DeleteUgh on accidentally getting up so early. I’m not sure I’d have got back to bed after brushing my teeth. Once I’m up, I’m up.
ReplyDeleteI have my Garmin set on autopause to account for the Scooby stops on my runs — you could do the same for walking. OTOH I don’t track our walks on Garmin, although I do enter the 0.9 mile if I’ve taken a Peloton walk too.
I’m not very tech-minded, so I’ve never bothered with the autopause feature (I know, my bad) . I hadn’t been up very long when I realized the early-early hour, otherwise I’d have probably just hopped on the bike and started pedaling anyways for some bonus miles.
Delete.
Yes, stopping and starting the Garmin over and over again gets annoying! I would do the same thing- you know how far it is, you don't need Garmin to confirm it. Nice job on the plogging- I would runfess that I didn't remember it was Earth Day until almost bedtime! Not sure how that happened.
ReplyDeleteWell, also the fact that walking with Max isn’t exactly much of a cardio workout anyways, it’s not worth all the Garmin kudos I’m still getting extra steps in (and fresh air!), so it’s all good.
DeleteThe stop/start of dog walking can make tracking a little chaotic. Since my dog routes are pretty routine I know the mileage.
ReplyDeleteGood on you for plogging...I runfess that I completely forgot about Earth Day...I recently bought and planted a new tree in our yard, does that count?
The new tree is gets you double points for Earth Day and Arbor Day ;-)
DeleteWhenever I have an early flight or appointment, I always think that I am going to oversleep and never have. This always leads to a restless night of sleep. Why do we do it?
ReplyDeleteI’m the same way if I have a race. At least now, with my new locale, I don’t have as much of a commute for the Des Moines area events, so the super early alarm isn’t as much of an issue as it used to be.
DeleteI completing forgot about Earth Day - good for you!
ReplyDeleteI only set my alarm when I have a race and I always panic that i may oversleep. But I usually wake up way before my alarm... thanks to my cats.
I never track my walks but I need to get out more.
I often wake up with a start and think that i've forgotten something. It's not my favorite. I do track my walks with the dogs, especially since I walk so many, but I don't worry about starting or stopping. Some days my pace looks super slow, but I'm more concerned about the actual mileage.
ReplyDeleteEven though I rode outside in the beautiful weather, Earth Day somehow escaped me and I didn't do my usual plogging duties. Good for you for making it happen!
ReplyDeleteThose farmer's carries sound intense! Shopping and working out at the same time - multitasking at its finest. ;-)
