When in doubt, look to the heavens…
Alas, this week featured a lot of beauty, light, and tranquility while looking skyward. Seriously, I don’t remember having so many continuous days with clear skies in recent memory.
The evenings were just as wonderful. The waning full moon didn’t stay hidden, illuminating many a fitness endeavor this week as well…
Before I get to the nitty gritty deets, welcome to the
Weekly Run Down!I love hosting this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner)! If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 8:00AM (EST) on Sundays and remains open through noon on Monday. We love reading about everyone's weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blog as well...please don't link-drop & dash ;-)
Anyways, here’s what went down, this week, (mostly) under the light of the moon:
Sunday - a serious day of recovery…
After a crazy busy day of tailgating, game watching, and lots of walking (14K+ miles), Sunday morning came rather quickly, LOL. But, BRRRR, 39F??? I know the summer temps aren’t gonna last forever, but temps that start with a “3” aren’t my favorite this time of year. I was just thankful there were still some flowers in bloom. I got out for 3-mile walk, and that was it for the day.
Never miss a Monday
It may have been a bit chilly (again) in the early hours, but the moon was shining bright. There’s nothing like a quick morning run (two miles) to get the day started! I also had a 2-mile skywalk adventure over lunch, and another 1-miler after dinner.
Take charge Tuesday
The day started with some upper-body work, followed by a quick 1-mile walk, before getting ready for the workday. There also was more lunch walking, dog walking, and post-workday walking (5-1/2 total miles for the day).
Wonderful Wednesday
We’re talking near-perfect conditions for this week’s 4:45 group run. It’s rare all five of us are able to make it there, so this was even more special of a run. Again, the moon was a bright beacon amidst all the stars. Three miles with the group, an extra mile with Kelly, and a bonus mile on my own. All good!
Triple-threat Thankful Thursday
With a 4:50 start time (for my weekly Deb session), I opted to begin on the bike (10 miles) and finish with a 2-mile walk outdoors. I couldn’t resist another selfie with the bright moon!
After parting ways, I cued-up an upper-body workout (Peloton) before heading to work. The day also included a lunchtime walk and the weekly 3-miler with the Thursday night run group. Yes, sleep came easy that night.
Fitness Friday - low impact for the win
My body was craving a lowkey day, so I kept things easy peasy. There was a short walk amidst the sunrise, two miles over lunch, and another two miles after work. Five total miles of walking, and all was well.
Seizing the 7-mile Saturday run…
Even with an earlier-than-typical bedtime, I felt rather sloth-like upon wake-up on Saturday. I had seven miles on the agenda, and didn’t get myself out the door until 7:15. The “suddenly summer” temps felt great, but following the previous cold spell, those temps also felt rather hot. The first few miles were tough, but things came together in the fourth mile. I’m glad I brought water along, and finding $5.00 made me feel like a paid athlete, LOL.

Later, early afternoon, I summoned Krystal (my hybrid bike). I’d had plans for a longish ride with friends, but when those plans got rescheduled, I opted to just ride solo. Yes, those low-90F temps were steamy, but those 21 miles were manageable on the bike. BTW, the Hawks won over UMass.
…and what’s happening on Sunday?
The temps are looking almost identical to Saturday. I’m hoping for an early morning walk, then possibly a short early afternoon ride. Hey, these summer temps are my jam, and I don’t plan to stay inside.
Overall, it was a decent week. The weather was phenomenal, even with a few cold mornings. I’m always grateful for my outdoor fitness time! Running saw 17 miles. Walking had 20 miles. Biking was not as busy as usual, with 31 miles, but I kept plenty busy with other fitness fun. Strength work is going well, and the daily planks and wall sits are on-point.
In case you missed out, here’s what went down on the blog: in other news:
In other news:
Friday Fashion Flair. With a game on the weekend’s agenda, it’s only appropriate to rep my team. The Hawks didn’t make it past the Cyclones last Saturday, so they were hungry for a victory, and they got one!
Finally, there were several Garmin badges up for grabs this week. I totally spaced-off doing any kind of tribute for September 11th (I should have ended Thursday’s ride at 9.11 miles instead of going for the “even” 10-mile mark). Thankfully, I did get a badge for my efforts on that honorable day.
The forecast is looking sunny, bright, and warm for the next few days. Of course, I’m totally onboard with that! I wish Summer could stick around for another couple months….
How did things play-out for your week? Lots of fun fitness? Did you catch the moon at all, in the early morning(s) or late evening(s)?
The moon guided your way many times this past week! I saw the moonbeam shining through my bathroom skylights twice, but other than that and seeing it white in the sky after dawn on Thursday, I missed it.
ReplyDeleteSorry that your ride with your friends fell through. Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts!
I’m totally embracing this summer weather!
DeleteI wish summer would stick around, too! We're also in for some warm, nice weather these upcoming weeks. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe real summer weather feels good!
DeleteYOU GOT PAID!!! $5 is a very high payout for street change.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!! It totally made my day :-)
DeleteIt's been such a great week of weather, hasn't it? This is my favorite time of year and I am savoring it. Nice miles this week! Plus $$$$
ReplyDeleteThe weather was great, and I’m glad to see it continue!
DeleteWe had a really nice week here too with cooler mornings and warmer afternoons. I do wish it could stay like this for longer. You kept busy this week and always fun to get paid for it :)
ReplyDeleteI don’t mind the cool mornings (much) as long as the afternoons are warm & sunny…
DeleteWow, you had temps that started with a "3" and then 90s! That's crazy! Still hot and steamy here, and we've been having lots of rain- but usually in the afternoon. No morning runs were rained out!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great week, and you should have some nice days up ahead for a while. Hope your summer lasts a little longer!
Yes, fingers crossed summer sticks around for awhile!
DeleteYou had a good week of consistent various forms activity as usual! It's hard to see those cold temps coming after a nice summer! I'm not a fan either, but I'm glad to see that my walks later in the day hasn't required any long pants just yet.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I’m in no hurry for full-length anything!
DeleteI saw had gorgeous views of the moon in San Diego.
ReplyDeleteNice on the $5 find — that would pay for my Starbucks. :-)
The moon was simply spectacular!!
DeleteYou really made the most of those clear skies, Kim! I love how the moon kept you company on so many runs and walks this week.
ReplyDeleteThat Saturday 7-miler sounds like a tough start but such a strong finish - plus bonus points for the $5 find, that’s runner’s luck!
It was great seeing the moon, both in the evenings & mornings. I love a clear, beautiful sky!
DeleteWe had a lot of storms this week, so didn't see too much of the moon thanks to the clouds.
ReplyDeleteGreat week again... And finding $5 is awesome!
I always love how you are so quickly able to pivot when plans change. It's a great quality to have!
We haven’t had any storms, or even much rain, in awhile… my yard is looking dry!
DeleteYahoo on $5, Starbucks money! :) We enjoyed the moonlight in Mexico too. It was perfect for night beach walks. How nice that everyone was able to make the early morning run. I haven't run with anyone (well OK, other than my husband this week) in a long time. I'm in loner mode lately!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to have running buddies!
DeleteEek! Temps in the 30s in the morning? That's chilly, especially for September! I hope that is not the new norm for you already especially when you have all these early morning runs.
ReplyDeleteSo awesome that you foudn $5! That's enough for a nice treat!
Yes, temps in the 30’s …pure nonsense for September! Thankfully, this week has been much better :-)
