Coffee Talk? Anyone?

Anyone up for some coffee chatter?

You don't have to drink coffee, and we don't even have to all sit at the same table (Covid is still a reality, don't forget). But we can gather (virtually) and have some conversation.

Are you game?

Grab a mug (or a pint, or a stein, or a simple glass), and let's begin. What would you share, if we were chatting as we sipped our beverages of choice?

First off, I'd share my February stats. The running has been feeling good, and the mileage has (slowly) been increasing. Walking was a bit lack-luster, due to the extreme cold. The elliptical and the indoor bike, though, kept me busy on many a cold morning. I'm grateful for every mile logged, none the less, regardless of how they happened.

Next, would you care to hear what I have on tap for March? There's two live races, the Leprechaun Chase (this weekend) and the Chocoholic Frolic (March 27th). Daily push-ups are continuing and I'm trying to remember to do some focused ab/core work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As far as diet/nutrition, I typically don't snack on candy all day long. I have noticed (since my Invisalign gig ended), though, I'm grabbing mini-size treats more often than before. Oops. So, I'm nixing that at-work sugar fix...and, at the risk of TMI'ing, I'm upping my hovering skills in the ladies room (#QuadStrength).

Guess what? My second annual Week of Pi Challenge begins on Monday! This was a fun mini-streak  that premiered last year for my birthday, which is March 14th..the National Day of Pi (recap HERE). Basically, it's pretty simple. I run 3.14 miles everyday for the entire week. I run them easy (no speedwork) and I run a different route each day. While some may think the 5K is kind of an odd distance (3.1 miles), the Pi distance is even more quirky...which is one of the many nuances to this week-long endeavor. Last year, there were a few friends who joined me, so the invitation stands for this year as well (your choice: run a single day, several days, or the entire week).

I'd also share some humble pie with you. Holy DOMS, Batman! Tuesday's lower-body workout was a doozy. How a mere 12-minute series of squats, deadlifts, and lunges can wreak so much havoc (on my hammies and glutes) is beyond comprehension. But, that's all good. Those DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) are an indication that some real work took place. Glass half full.

Finally, it feels like Spring is in the air or, at the very least, knocking on the door. Though the hubby and I are headed to the sunshine state later this month, I have to admit it'll be hard to leave the current Iowa weather (but I'm sure I'll manage). Even though I'm a die-hard summer gal, I really love the freshness of the early spring season. It's so nice being outside, right now, when these 40's/50's temps actually feel warm.

Well, those are just a few (or five) things I'd share over coffee. Although our winter was pretty mild, things definitely took a turn for the (extreme) cold in February. Hopefully that's all behind us, and the warm-up will continue.

Your turn! What would you share, if we were gathered over coffee? Has the spring thaw started in your area?

  1. I am definitely going to crash your party for a pi run! Right now I'm contemplating whether to run outside or inside this morning...it's just a little on the chilly side. I've got about 10 more minutes to make my mind up. Having spring like weather has been a game changer.

    1. I thought I was out of the woods with the DOMS...they weren’t too bad Wednesday morning on my run. But, a few hours later ...%#}!

  4. Our local Shamrock Stroll 5K is going virtual again, but I booked an OTF class on St Patrick's Day so I'll be decked out in full green attire for class.

I know you'll have fun with the Pi challenge!

  5. Oh God, right now it's in the teens with a fierce wind chill on top of that.

Except for dark chocolate, I don't eat candy. But I do eat other things that wouldn't go well with Invisaligns -- kudos for being so good with them.

    1. I have a terrible sweet tooth, but I don’t usually have candy around. At work, though, the candy dish is within arm’s reach....so far, five days sans candy & I don’t miss it (yet).

  6. I only know my running miles. I don't keep track of the walking and biking but I bet they are more.

Signs of spring - snow is disappearing but the WIND!!! My runs this week have been tough.

    I don't eat candy...now desserts like pies, donuts, etc...yup!

    1. We get a lot of wind here, so it’s a constant. Remember all those windy 5K time trials I did last spring?

    1. Lower-body work always smacks me, especially since I hadn’t done any tough lower-body work recently. The DOMS don’t lie!

  9. Perhaps I'll join you for a Pi run on your birthday!

It always amazes me that DOMS shows up when I'd skip lunges for a week even though I do plenty of other exercises. It's crazy!

    Have a great weekend!

  10. Hope you have an awesome race tomorrow Kim!!

I may join you for week of Pi, but not sure I'll run it. I guess walking it is fine too right??

My DOMS has been funny - I do lower body on Mondays and can still feel the DOMS in my abs on Thursdays...

  11. Ha! I love how you are working out even in the ladies' room!!! :)

One of my running friends is having a Pi Day run, but I don't know if I will go or not. Bill and I still haven't had our vaccines. I guess the run will be fine; the gathering afterward (for pie) we might forego.

Good luck with your races this month! Isn't it great that we can have some real live, in-person options again? I am looking forward to a tiny trail race later this month too.

  12. mm. Pie.
I'll run Pi "with" you for your bday. Will be a fun virtual weekend as I'm doing a group 5K with friends the day before too.
    All the miles!

  13. Count me in for some Pi running! I'm not sure I'll make it running every day - there may be some walking miles in there.

How nice to have two in-person races on deck! Have fun tomorrow :)

  14. We've had a pretty cold winter here as well. Much of my February running was on the treadmill. When I do grt a chance to run outside I can't seem to go more than a few miles. Looking forward to warmer weather and longer runs.

  16. Your February stats look great! You always keep moving! I've had a raging sweet tooth lately too. Part of the problem is that my husband always has sweets on hand (yes, I just threw him under the bus) and I'm not always as strong as I'd like to be. Working on it!

  17. Oh, now that I am starting to run with Scooby again we could do a Pi run or two! LOL on spring knocking on the door. Around here it’s playing “ring and run”! Have fun at your race tomorrow! What an experience that will be.

  18. That Chocoholic Frolic sounds fun! Enjoy your PI challenge My daughter has the same birthday. :-)

  19. I would love to do that challenge too! However, does it have to be exactly 3.14 miles? I mean there are some runs where I would run more than that.

  20. You are going to love Florida right now. It's been downright pleasant!

  21. I actually took a week off from my usual intense lower body workout today. I was so sore from it last week that I could barely run. I really need to find a balance between the two...

My allergies are starting to kick in, but I'll take it if it means more sunlight and warmth. I'm usually a fan of winter, but this year kind of broke me.
