Time for a Refill

Well, whaddya know?

We’re already rockin’ a new month. That means it’s time to gather ‘round the virtual table and have a virtual chat. I don’t know about you, but I’m always game for such things.

We’ve had some chilly temps of recent, and I’ve been pounding the warm beverages like it’s my job. In fact, it’s been a challenge keeping my mug full.

Speaking of which, I’m due for a refill; so how about we get this party started…

Before I grab a refill, I’ll start by sharing my March stats. This was a busy month in terms of stair-training. There was the requisite running, but the miles weren’t overly impressive (even with the Week of Pi thrown into the mix). Biking was alright. Walking, though, finally saw an upswing!

Before I grab a refill, can I tell you a bit more about my non-cardio fitness? I’m still doing the daily core/leg lifts work. In early February, I decided to rake on the challenge of doing more core-focused work, and added “double” leg lifts to the challenge. These specific leg lifts, done from a lying position, work both my upper legs (quads and inner thighs) as well as my core. While my core still isn’t looking ripped (as if, LOL), I am starting to see some definition and less fluff. I’ve been doing 30 lifts with my legs straight and 30 with them rotated outwards. I think it’s time to add more reps to up the intensity and increase the burn a bit. Why not?

Before I grab a refill, I’ll share a pic of my “ugly” Hawkeye sweater. I actually finished knitting it a few weeks ago, but I wasn’t happy with the sleeve length. What’s a 50-year veteran knitter to do? Well, I found some double-pointed needles from my stash and “simply” (I use that term loosely, quite literallly) added several more inches to the sleeves…all without needing to rip-out any of the sewn seams. Now I’m all set for the 2025 football season (or a chilly spring day).

Before I grab a refill, I have to admit to my daily addiction to playing Wordle. Just the other day, I had a word that took me all seven attempts to solve. Talk about your close calls! I also had a recent word that I got totally lucky on guessing a random word on the second attempt.

Finally, before I grab that refill, did you know Wednesday was National Day of Walking? I didn't, and apparaently Garmin didn't either. Fortunately, Deb was in the know and invited me to a spontaneous walk. She may have had to take matters into her own (creative) hands and craft a pseudo Garmin badge. Desperate times, right?  Fortunately, I was home that afternoon. Unfortunately, the wind was at its worst…hello, 30mph????

Well, that’s all I have for now. Besides, I REALLY need to get that refill!

If we were gathered over coffee, and having a virtual chat, what would you bring to the table?

Since it's the first weekend of the month, I'm linking this with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date

  1. Ah, I need to do that too (more core-focused workouts)!

That's cool that you were able to just add more inches to the sleeves! I learned how to knit back in 2012 and then...forgot how, and recently happened upon a circle scarf I was making. It actually looks really cool but I don't remember what to do anymore! :'(

    1. Bummer on the knitting thing. Maybe you could find a YouTube video with some suggestions?

  2. I didn't know it was National Walking Day either but thankfully I walked! I'm doing a walking streak for my daughter - she turns 13 on the 11th April so I've been walking a minimum of 1.3km every day since 11th March. If we were having coffee, I'd continue to say how surprised I am that I have actually enjoyed these quiet walks. It's been a time to get out even when I don't feel like it and also just "meditate".

    1. That walking streak sounds great, especially because it has a sentimental nuance to it ;-)

  3. That's an awesome save with the knitting! We learned knitting at school (knitting, sewing, crocheting, etc. was mandatory for girls). I've never used it since, but it's a really neat skill to have.

I play Wordle every day with my dad and sister. My dad is usually first in the morning and then gives us a tip so that we can solve it quicker. The tip for "shear" was "get wool from a sheep" which made it pretty easy! 😅

    1. That’s funny with the Wordle family fun! That SHEAR really had me stumped…I couldn’t believe it took me four attempts with most of the letters already filled-in, LOL!

  4. Oh, I'm envious! I don't know how to knit. The sweater looks awesome.
Double leg lifts are a great core exercise. I tried doing them with my legs turned out but it somehow really irritated my sacrum area (???) Sigh... my body is so weird.
How did we not know about the National Day of Walking? Glad you were able to celebrate with a windy walk.

    1. I usually prop my hands under my sit bones when doing the leg lifts, especially the “turned-out legs” ones. I’m really surprised National Walking Day didn’t get much press.

  5. Your knitting is absolutely beautiful. I wish I could hire you to knit some doggie sweaters! Ha! Way to go on the corework. Always a good idea!

    1. I’ve made Max (and his “niece” ) a few sweaters ;-) Maybe I could whip one up for your little Romeo…

  6. Ok well I did walk on Wednesday but had no idea that it was walking day. I have to check thoseGarmin badges more often! Daily core definitely makes a difference for me. And nutrition! Wordle scores get very competitive over here!

  7. There's nothing ugly about your Hawkeye sweater and I really like the stylish neckline! It's great that you were able to make the sleeves longer without having to take out any stitches. My mom didn't know how to knit so it's not a skill I learned when I was little.

    1. My mom has ZERO creativity know-how, so I’m grateful for my artsy-fartsy fetish, LOL!

  8. Your sweater looks great - hardly ugly! I'm so impressed with your knitting skills. I runfess that I have been slipping on my core work lately. Way to go making that happen on the daily!

    1. I had been slipping on core work as well, until I started doing these leg lifts two months ago. I’m glad to be back in the game!

  9. I love your "ugly" sweater!!!

Over coffee I would tell you that I've had a few 2 and 3 times lucky Wordles lately...and of course a few that I couldn't solve. I'm pretty much the Queen of the forth time is the luck of charm.

    1. HA! Yes, I do have a tough Wordle, on occasion, that keeps me humble.

  10. I love your sweater — your knitting skills are impressive!
    Prone leg lifts are tough!
I have to remind myself that Wordle uses the same letter twice sometimes.

  11. That is a beautiful sweater! It isn't ugly at all. I feel like I am the only one that doesn't play Wordle. Am I missing out?

  12. I love that sweater... I have never attempted one... that is above my knitting skill.

Yes I am addicted to wordle.
