Shall we chat over coffee?

Anyone else up for some chatting over coffee?

It’s hard to believe we are almost a week into June (how did THAT happen so quickly?). As with every new month, there are some things I’d like to share with anyone who’d like to join me around the (virtual) table.

Shall we get the chatting started?

If we were chatting over coffee, I’d start with my stats from May. This was an action-packed month of busyness! While my running mileage didn’t cross the century mark, there were some substantial miles in the running shoes. The walking saw some serious action as well. And, the biking? Yes, I was finally able to get out on the trails!

If we were chatting over coffee, I’d admit to a bit of a paradox following last weekend’s DAM to DSM Half Marathon (recap HERE). The race went very well, and I even went on a 28-mile bike ride with some friends afterwards. Other than some mild hip flexor crankiness, I was feeling pretty well recovered by mid-week. That said, I know just because one is feeling fully recovered doesn’t necessarily mean one should shortcut the recovery period. I was able to run five miles without issue on Wednesday, but subbed-in a 14-mile bike ride Thursday afternoon for the usual evening group run. And I didn’t feel any guilt in doing so, and I think my hips appreciated the low-impact rhythm of the pedaling.

If we were chatting over coffee, I’d share a fashion fession. I recently added a couple of “tennis dresses” to the wardrobe. While I have no intentions of playing tennis in them, I think they’ll make cute casual summer dresses. I may have already worn the bright coral one to a graduation party…

If we were chatting over coffee, I’d tell you about my flower seed experiment. It’s been several years since I’ve planted actual seeds for anything. I got a late start on my backyard landscaping updates, and don’t want to drop a lot of money on established plants (until they go on sale, later in the season, LOL). I should have planted my flower seeds much sooner than mid-May (or started them indoors). But, I saw a package of California Poppy seeds in the store cold not resist the purchase. So, we shall see what happens. I planted some of these, several years ago at our Michigan house, and they self-seeded from then-on. My fingers are crossed (tightly) a similar thing will happen in my somewhat barren backyard.

Finally, if we were chatting over coffee, I’d admit to not knowing Tuesday (June 3rd) was World Bicycle Day. Fortunately, Deb sent me a text, reminding me of this special day! Unfortunately, the day was cold, damp, and windy in Iowa. I also had dinner plans for a family birthday, so it wasn’t until almost 9:00PM when I was able to hit the spin bike. Better late than never, right?

Well, I guess that’s all for now. I should probably let someone else have a turn, LOL.

How about you? Anything you’d care to share if we were chatting over coffee?

Since it's the first weekend of the month, I'm linking this with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date

  1. I did not know about world bicycle day either. I had a pretty epic ride on Sunday, so my story is that I celebrated two days early. In the same vein, we can say that I celebrated global running day one day early.

  2. Oh, I like the tennis dress! I'm sure you'll get a lot of wear out of it and the others this summer!

Glad you could hop on your spin bike to earn the World Bicycle Day badge. Did you see that we earned the World Environment Badge during our virtual workout yesterday?

  3. I love that dress! Very cute and summery. And- a little extra recovery is never a bad thing. Those hip flexors will be thanking you!
I never know when these "days" are happening, and usually fail to take advantage of them, ha.

  5. I also love that dress! Such a nice mix of elegance and sporty-looking.
Smart move listening to your body and not rushing back into full mileage. It’s so tempting to ride the high of a good race, but you struck a great balance - recovering actively without overdoing it. I’m sure your hips appreciated the bike ride more than a group run!

  7. Yeah my bicycle day was spent on the indoor bike. That's life I guess. The tennis dress is cute...for other events as well! Hope the poppy seeds work out. I seeded some zinnias this spring and they're coming along nicely.

  8. Oh, gosh, I missed World Bicycle Day. I don’t even think there was a bike in my hotel gym.

    1. I totally would have missed World Bicycle Day had I not heard from Deb. I would have much rather ridden outside, but the weather was not biking-friendly here.

  9. I have quite a few dresses (skirt sports ones) and I love them... so comfy. I just wore one visiting the NYBG.

Great job on all your miles. I'll say you were busy.

  10. I love those tennis dresses! They are so great for marching band events and dog walking! Old Navy sells a "tall/long" version that are a great length, too!
