Hmmm, What’s in your cup?

If we were to gather for a coffee chat, virtual or otherwise, what would be in your cup?

I’ve been on a hazelnut cappuccino kick for a a couple of years now. If I’m sipping in the comfort of my home, that would be my beverage of choice. If I was out and about, I’d go for a chai latte’ because I’m still not a coffee drinker. I do love me a hot beverage on occasion, though, even in the heat of summer.

Another question…if we were gathered around a table, what would you want to share?

Myself? I have a few things I’d bring to the table…

First off, I’d start with my July stats. Although the running miles look a bit bleak, I do feel good about all of them. Many of those miles were logged in extreme heat and humidity. Some were with friends. A few of them earned me a silver medal at the Midnight Madness 5K (recap). Every mile was worthwhile. Walking kept me busy on a daily basis. Biking was pretty stellar, including several long rides and a day of RAGBRAI (recap).

I’d also give a special nod to my July biking in general. Although Krystal (she’s the hybrid) claimed most of those 292 miles, I also took Gustavas (he’s the mountain bike) out a few times. I even logged a few rides in the basement with Hawkeye (the spin bike). I guess I’m not a one trick pony with my biking, LOL.

Another point of contention would be some of the strange words I encountered, via Wordle. I’m also amazed at my luck in guessing these obscure words with limited letters in my arsenal.

Would you like an update on my orchid? I was so excited to see three stems  sprouting a month ago or so. Upon closer inspection (and some research), it turns out only one of these “sprouts” is a legit stem. The other two “posers” are actually new roots. At least the one new true stem (on the left in the pic below) has a second  stem (branch?) sprouting from it.

…and here’s an update on my flower bed. I just noticed some of the poppies are in bloom! I have always loved poppies, and these are the first ones I have gotten to bloom in the past 25+ years. I had a huge cluster at my Michigan house, and they kept self-seeding for several years, but no such luck at my previous house in Grinnell.

Well, I guess that’s all for now. Besides, I need to grab a refill.

Enough about me…if we were gathered for a coffee chat, what would you bring to the table? What would be in your cup?

  1. Well, I would say you made every one of those 57 running miles count! You've definitely been out and about enjoying the summer heat.
    Those poppies are so pretty!

  2. Yay for poppies! They're kind of difficult to grow...here at least. I have three orchids, all in full bloom right now. To be honest I'm amazed! Haha!

  3. Whenever I think my orchid is dead, another sprout pops out. I think this is normal for them? Wordle has been annoying the past few weeks with a couple of slang words. I keep playing though!

  4. This morning I'm in a hotel with limited coffee equipment, so I'm drinking tiny little cups of nesspresso. It's not bad at all, but the servings are so tiny. I'm on cup 2 of 3.

July was a rough month for weather, but you made the most of it. Hopefully August will calm down a bit.

I think I got that wordle in the same number of guesses, and was pretty proud of myself.

  5. You get in a lot of walking miles, impressive! I hope your orchid gets lots of buds. Mine is still blooming. It had four big fat buds when I left for our trip so I let my s-i-l take it to her house to enjoy. It was still blooming when she brought it back. I have another orchid that the same s-i-l gave me that is re-blooming, this time from the plant, not a long stem. I've never seen that before. I'll text you a picture.

  6. I like my coffee fairly dark and strong with a splash of oat milk and a cracked open cardamom pod. I love poppies and last year managed to grow some from seed in a little pot on my windowsill. You can't believe how much joy they gave me watching new flowers open.

  7. Nice job with those biking miles! Wordle has been tricky lately - I alway wonder how they decide on the daily word.

  8. What a beautiful orchid! I love that! And look at you with all the bikes. I will get really into wordle and then forget all about it for a while. Now I have to go play a round. I love cold brew with cold foam or a splash of cream, no sugar. Sooo good.
