How about a few February ‘Fessions

February 2026 was quite a unique month.

The weather threw most of us for a loop. While much of the US spent the greater part of the month under snow and ice, Iowa was pretty much exempt from the usual extreme conditions of the winter season.

With such an unseasonably pleasant month, one would think there wouldn’t be any ‘fessing needed. But, the ‘fessions, nonetheless, are still ripe and ready…

Care to join me at the ‘fessional?

As mentioned, the weather was a bit of a game-changer and also a wild card. Not only were several of my  runs done while wearing spring gear, there also were a couple in actual summer attire as well. Let me runfess, it was totally euphoric to be out of the fleece-lined tights and thermal base layers, though I may have had to indulge in a tiny bit of sunless tanning lotion to downplay the “winter white” glow of my skin.

Did I mention the weather? After more than two weeks of splendid (almost tropical-like) temps, BOOM! Momma dumped over eight inches of heavy, wet snow on us! My hands had not seen a shovel since December 13th. Ironically, a Facebook memory (from February 12, 2025) reminded me of the joy of snow shoveling…and there I was, doing it again on February 19th of this year. I blatantly shovelfess that I am not a fan of the white stuff, nor was I amused by Momma N’s sense of humor.

Ironically, that warm spell of weather coincided with the Olympics. I say that because I have a USA sweater and a stocking hat, which I had not had the opportunity to wear either of which until all of that snow arrived. Those eight inches of snow brought sub-ZERO feels-like temps and intense wind. Alas, I finally had the proper temps to don the USA apparel…just as the Olympics were winding down. I’ll weatherfess that it wasn’t the end of the world, LOL.

Another ironic Facebook memory, this one from seven years ago, bears mentioning. This one showcased one of my requisite outdoor selfies following an indoor workout. It’s kind of my way of rebelling against the crazy cold of the winter season. Following last weekend’s virtual hour with Deb, I posted the “now” pic (on the right side of  the collage)…and someone praised me for “getting out there no matter what the weather throws me.” I’ll idiotfess, on said commentator’s behalf, that they (probably) didn’t bother reading the full text of my caption and thought I had actually biked those 25 miles in the snow, while wearing the tank top, shorts and sandals. I’m not that badass, LOL Geesh.

Finally, amidst all the craziness of the winter weather, my #OptOutside streak is still going strong. That said, I’m embarrassed to runfess that I totally spaced-off that February 15th was Day-1900. What The What! Not sure how I let that milestone day slip by without marking it on my calendar. I did put a big “2000” on May 26th (and circled it several times), which will be Day-2000. You’ve been warned, so stay tuned.

Whew. That was a lot. The February ‘Fessions have been ‘fessed, and I’m free to move on to March.

You’ve heard mine, how about you? Do you have ‘fessions that need spoken?

I’m linking this with Marcia for the monthly Runfessions link-up

  2. I don't know how we did it, but we missed out on all the recent snow. That never happens but I'll take it. Haha! That said, there's snow in the forecast for tomorrow. But first I'm going to get out and enjoy 62 degrees today!

  3. We've had it all this week - a bunch more snow and now a warm day on tap. There will be a long hike this afternoon, I can tell you that much.

Congrats on being so close to the "comma club" for the Opt Outside streak! Looking forward to May 26!

  4. I am glad to read that you got a reprieve from severe winter this year. It’s in fact not that fun, I am not a fan. LOL. My opt outside streak took some hits but we do our best and keep moving!

  5. We have had zero spring temps other than when I left and went to Florida..
I opt outside all the time... but usually it's not a happy run.

  8. 1900 days. WOW.
I think Momma N was in your closet and saw you hadn't had the chance to wear your Winter Olympic fashions. But yes some SSDY (Same snow different year) in FB memories here too. Stay weird mother nature!
