Well, it’s been quite a month!
It feels like we finally turned the corner on winter-feels weather. The increasing daylight has been pure euphoria. And, after a few months of lowkey maintenance, I had three big events warranting race bibs.
I’d say things have been going well, and I’m eager to forge on ahead to even warmer temps and increased sunshine. But first, I’d like to detour to a virtual coffee gathering and play a brief game of Catch-Up.
Myself, I’m grabbing a hot hazelnut cappuccino. Care to grab a mug and join me at the table?
First-off, if we were chitchatting, I’d give you the lowdown on my April stats. Not a bad month, considering April was much windier than necessary. The running miles were mediocre, but at least they’re on the (gradual) upswing. Honestly, I’m trying to do more walking and save the legs a bit. Speaking of which, walking took a definite turn for the better. Biking also had a decent showing, and finally had a few rides outdoors!
Next, if we were chitchatting, I’d share the accolades sent from Garmin. They’re just virtual badges, with no monetary value, but they do inspire me on occasion. I gotta Garminfess, though, I have no idea what the points mean. I doubt they’re redeemable for anything…(?).
Also, if we were chitchatting, I’d express my surprise in seeing MetaAI “helping” decipher my objectives on my Facebook page. What’s up with that? While the one on the right is pretty accurate in summarizing a recent WRD post, the one on the left eludes to my “remarkable results!” Hmmm, even I didn’t know I’d lost 45 pounds of fat, or that my blood pressure needed lowering, LOL.
Again, if we were chitchatting, I’d whine about the insane wind! Seriously, will it ever stop? We’re not just talking about wind gusts, but daily sustained wind…usually in the upper-teens with wind speed. Thankfully, that wind is feeling more balmy than chilly, but still.
Finally, if we were chitchatting, I’d highlight a crazy comparison on pics from last week’s Grand Blue Mile. My friend, Shaina, gave me a cheer just after the 3/4-mile mark (and caught me at a most unflattering moment, LOL) as I tried waving to her. A couple of quick minutes later, one of the event photographers got my pic crossing the finish line. What’s funny about these two pics is how exhausted I look in one, and how strong I look in the other. Let me assure you, I was feeling like death in both.

Anyways, if we were chitchatting, I’d now take a seat and let someone else have the floor. I’ve chatted enough, ha!
So much wind, and now we're headed into a stretch of Rain for Days. But it can't last forever, right? Actually don't answer that.
ReplyDeleteThe thought that popped into my head over the two race photos is "I don't mind dying but I hate the preliminaries". At 3/4 you were in the thick of the "preliminaries" but at the finish line your body knew that the hard part was over. So the pictures make sense!
Yeah, most of my races pics are terrible, no matter which part of the race course they’re captured!
DeleteInteresting with AI meta. I have been using chat GPT for a few things lately and find it works really well. I even used it to help me tweak my IG profile bio the other day. I have not used the Meta AI. Figuring, I think it’s her to stay so we need to learn how to use it!
ReplyDeleteI didn’t even realize the Meta AI feature was there…totally surprised me what it had “to say” about my ROTF Facebook page, LOL
DeleteI've not used MetaAI or ChatGPT. I guess I'm a luddite. Ha! Yeah race pics always seem to catch me at my worst. What is up with that?
ReplyDeleteI have had only a handful of decent race pics…and I’ve been at this running/racing gig for awhile…
DeleteOh that's funny. 45 pounds of body fat? How did it come up with that??? It's funny how AI can get skewed. In my yahoo emails there will be a little AI preview of each one (I don't like this) and once it told me I was registered for several races in May. I AM??? It was just an email telling me about upcoming races in my area, lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyway- it's very rare that I look decent in a race photo, but the finish line is probably my best bet. I think somehow we're putting on our best look as we cross that line. You do look strong!
Enjoy the spring weather! And let's get rid of that wind, sheesh!
The wind REALLY needs to lighten-up!
DeleteSo odd about the Meta AI - really makes you wonder how it comes up with this stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe wind has been relentless (again) - I'd love a break from the extra resistance training ;)
I had no idea the Meta AI was even there! I just happened to catch it when my ROTF post showed up on my personal FB page feed. Weird!!!
DeleteI think all the Garmin points do is give us a chance to compete against our followers if we're interested in that sort of thing. I've found that the AI (Athlete's Intelligence) on Strava is pretty accurate after my workouts. So far it hasn't told me I've lost 45 pounds of body fat. LOL
ReplyDeleteSeriously! I didn’t even gain 45 pounds during any of my pregnancies, LOL.I’ve never “needed” to lose that kind of weight…no idea how that stat was generated.
DeleteOoh love al the Garmin badges!I always forget to look and see what I've gotten in terms of badges on there - and forget to sign up for them! You always inspire me though :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I often times forget to look to see what badges are up for grabs until a week into the new month.
DeleteThat’s a pretty collection of Garmin badges!
ReplyDeleteLOL on those race photos. I think there should be signs “race photographer ahead” so you can be ready.
There’s pressure to use AI at work but I’m not convinced it’s a time saver yet. I think Facebook knows too much about me already — I guess MetaAI just pulls it altogether.
I shared, we should get a heads-up when there are photographers on the scene!
DeleteI really try to avoid AI at all costs. I've seen Terminator. I know how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteLove all those Garmin badges!
I have not done anything (on purpose) with AI yet, which is why I was surprised to see it had been applied (?) on my ROTF FB post.
DeleteThe Garmin badges are fun to look at! I don’t know what the points mean either but they’re fun to look at, haha. I’ve been racking em up on this trip and am happy to be able to say I’ve finally logged a few bike rides on there (at long last!)!
ReplyDeleteI hope the wind calms down where you are soon!
(Unsure why I can’t sign in as it’s saying my blog is an invalid URL, but this is Farrah! đŸ˜…)
The Garmin bandages are a nice means of incentive and inspiration ;-)
DeleteI wished the Garmin badges were worth something. I rarely look at mine because I am in a hurry after I get home from my run/walk.
