Recovery. Adventure. Fun. Mix and repeat.
There was a lot of stuff going down this week, and my body may be tired, but my spirits are oh-so-happy!
But first things first...
Welcome to the Weekly Run Down! I am so excited to host this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner). If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 1:00 (EST) on Sundays and remains open through Monday (noon). Please share your weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blogs as well.
So here's the latest Weekly Run Down....
That good ole Never Miss a Monday
After another whirlwind weekend, Monday morning left me feeling ever so groggy. I took Max for a short walk and that's all she wrote (for the morning). After work, I suited up (in shorts!) and did a very easy 2-miler. There may have been some wind, and my body may have felt a little fatigued...but warmer temps? Spring flowers? And sunshine? I'm all over that!
The body was still feeling tired, but with my flight (to Washington, DC) happening late Thursday afternoon, I had 1,007,753 tasks to tend to before boarding that plane. Multitasking, anyone? I took Max out, and walked a fast (& furious) mile on the 'mill while sorting through some emails. It was nothing glamorous (I may even have worn the shorts from Monday's run), but that was my reality.
Even with a still (somewhat) tired body, I got out for five miles in the early morning. And you know what? The fresh air, the clear sky, and the tranquility was just what I needed. Every run is a gift, Friends.
Ugh. Not only had my body been feeling fatigued, so had my throat. I didn't feel full-on ill, but my throat was dry and scratchy (and had been for a couple days). Let's just say I was slamming the fluids all day, and upping the Vitamin C. Not wanting to over-do anything, with my trip to DC hours away, I bailed on my morning walk (it was cold outside anyways) and pulled out the hand weights and kettle bell. Arm and shoulders and core work? Done! Besides, we all know strength work is important...and skinny arms are so #yesterday.
After a late-night arrival to Deborah's house (ahem, 11:00 p.m.), morning came a bit early. My body wakes up (most days) before any alarms, even on limited slumber. I didn't go for a run, but hung with Deborah, over coffee and chai. We eventually spent some time in her home gym, she on the Peloton bike and myself on the treadmill (2-mile power walk). Of course, we had to pose for pic (or no one would have believed us, right?). Later, we picked up Linda from the airport and headed back to Deborah's to prep for the evening dinner get-together with fellow runner/blogger gal pals (see below).
As my usual pre-race routine dictates, I headed out for a short shakeout run. How do two hilly Virginia miles sound for breakfast? And numerous pretty blossoms for dessert?
The weather was looking great (in fact, the best weather in a few years). My outfit was ready, and I was excited to check this race of my bucket list. Stay tuned for more details....
In case you missed out, here's what happened on the blog this past week:
Hello Spring!
Chocoholic Frolic 10K Race Recap
Can we talk? Over coffee?
In other news:
Friday Fashion Flair! Did you see it on Instagram? What do you think of the pink and brown color combo? Open-toe booties? Sunless tanning lotion? My current reality...and, truth be told, this actually was my Tuesday outfit (because it was much prettier LOL). Does it feel like spring in your area? As per usual, you're invited to join me...post a pic of a featured outfit (it doesn't have to be your actual Friday outfit), grab the hashtag (#FridayFashionFlair) and be sure to tag me (@runningonthefly). Easy peasy!

Yay meetups!
ReplyDeleteGlad you felt up for a solid race. Travel can really wear you down.
Major FOMO here since you had great weather, but enjoyed the local fundraiser run too. Travel safe!
The meet-up was so fun! And yes, traveling is so exhausting. That’s probably a factor in my getting this icky cold.
DeleteWhat a lovely meetup and I'm glad you were able to enjoy the race even with your cold - well done, you! Had a big miles week myself and so glad these post quite early now so I don't have to check for a post to link to late night!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dear :-) We’re glad you’re joining us each week and sharing all of your adventures with us!
DeleteSorry that you weren't feeling that well this week :( This should be no surprise but I'm now also sick. We take the #kimtwin thing a little too seriously LOL
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you had a fun race and a great weekend!
Amazingly, it’s not a huge surprise that you’d be sharing my sickness LOL I hope you’re feeling better soon. It would have been a blast to have you with us in DC :-)
DeleteToo bad about the cold. I feel like I'm on the verge but hoping it's allergies.
ReplyDeleteWould love to do this race. Can't wait to hear all the details.
I do love meetups. What's next?
This race was awesome, and we were blessed with decent weather. All of the blossoms were beautiful and the scenic sights were fun to see (while in my running shoes).
DeleteSounds like a fun trip! I'd love to do the Cherry Blossom one day! A bunch of my friends went up and did this run together this past weekend. It's always nice to meet up with fellow fitness friends!
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to do this race forever, so I’m pretty thankful I was able to get in (via the lottery) on my first attempt.
DeleteI'm sure you guys all had a lot of fun! I'm still recovering from whatever I had (not quite sure what it was), but probably about 90% now. Hope you're feeling ok this coming week, it's so hard to stay well while traveling. I can only imagine how beautiful that race must be!
ReplyDeleteThe stickiness really took me by surprise, but I have done a lot of racing and traveling in the past few weeks. And, airplane travel is a germ fest...
DeleteLooks like a fun weekend! I just love all our blogger friends. Sorry about the cold, but glad to see you were able to run the race. What a pretty day! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, blogger (and running) friends are the best. The race went way better than I expected considering how much hacking I did the past few days and all the cold meds making me loopy. Oh well, worse things have happened on race day.
DeleteEvery run is a gift for sure! Your girls weekend looks like so much fun. I definitely am having severe FOMO over Cherry Blossom. Congrats on a good race. I love that race. Why haven't I done it for a few years? I think that nasty cold must have spread through the blogosphere. I am still recovering too.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope your cold isn’t as dreadful as mine was! But, Cherry Blossom was such a grand event! Now I’m gonna want to come back....
DeleteFriends and community are everything - looks like it was such a blast for you ladies to get together! Sorry you were sick for the week, but it sounds like you made the most of it. Hope you feel better this coming week
ReplyDeleteThankfully, I never had a fever or I may have had to stay home. But, yes, the running community is an awesome piece of work :-)
DeleteCongrats on a great race this morning! You had such great weather considering how some of the past years have been. Safe travels home!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the linkup!
It was a fabulous morning!!
DeleteOh wow you had to layover in Atlanta to go to DC? That's not cool. But that and the cold aside, it sounds like a marvelous weekend! How great to see so many blogging pals together!
ReplyDeleteYes, Atlanta was a small jungle to navigate in a short time span LOL I’m glad I have long legs and strength to carry a carry-on while in motion LOL
DeleteI didn't have a connecting flight, but we *barely* made it to our flight out west a few weeks ago. Got to the airport and it was crazy packed with spring breakers. Totally misjudged the amount of time we needed, and I was running full speed (with snow boots on) with my son to get our gate and tell them to hold the plane!! I was a big sweaty mess by the time we got to our seats. Oops!!!
ReplyDeleteAir travel is SOOO stressful, and most of it is out of our control. UGH.
DeleteSounds like such a fun weekend! Glad you were okay health wise to still do the race; bad colds are no fun :(
ReplyDeleteCherry Blossom sounds so fun!
This cold didn’t seem like much until Thursday morning, you know, the day I flew out of Iowa :-)
DeleteIt was SO great to meet you in person! I wish I could have spent more time with you, but I'm glad you had a good weekend -- and an awesome race. Glad you made it home too -- even traveling for fun can be tiring.
ReplyDeleteIt was a super-great weekend! WIsh I could have found you this morning, but you finished WAY ahead of me LOL
DeleteSorry you were dealing with a cold all week - so glad it didn't get in the way of your race. It looks like you all had a great time this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI got lucky this morning...this cold, cough have been major crazy the past couple days. I was really worried what would happen on race day if I had a coughing eruption...
DeleteSoo sorry you were sick all week! I know the feeling. We have had some sort of crud in our house since Thanksgiving! That it is finally warming up here I hope we are finally done. Congrats on a great race!
ReplyDeleteMy crud was manageable until Thursday, then it kind of magnified in symptoms. I’m thankful it wasn’t much of an issue on the race course.
DeleteWe had parallel weeks! I had a sore throat early in the week that turned to sinus congestion/cold. And last weekend I was with blogging friends. Weird! Sounds like it was a great time despite the cold. Can't wait to read your recap!
ReplyDeleteThis throat, cold, cough crud is nutty! I think mine is finally on the way out....
DeleteI'm glad you had a fun time in DC! I'm enjoying seeing all the pics and can't wait for your recap of Cherry Blossom. I hope you continue to feel better, congrats on your race!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janelle! The cold is feeling better, but the cough is holding on.....
DeleteWhat an exciting week! So glad you were feeling good on race day. I had the same crudiness going on before my Sunday race but it cleared up just in time!! You and Deb look great, rocking it in her gym - LOL! Looking forward to the race recap! It looks gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteDC was totally gorgeous!! What a great event ;-)
DeleteSo much fun this week! I'm sorry you weren't feeling great, but it seemed to all work out in time for Cherry Blossom! I'm totally putting in for the lottery in 2020! It's time to make this bucket list race an absolute reality!
ReplyDeleteLove that fuschia and dark khaki combo!
I was lucky to get in via the lottery on my first attempt. I've had this race on my list forever!
DeleteSounds like a really busy, but fun week. I'm glad that you started to feel better in time for the race :) And I love those floral leggings you wore for the race!
ReplyDeleteThanks! There were a lot of gals in floral leggings ;-)
Deleteoh no I'm so sorry you got sick before your trip! you are such a trooper though and obviously you are amazingly fit and healthy that it never really became full blown! looks like you ladies had the. best. time. EVER!
ReplyDeleteWE did have a lot of fun! There's a lot to be said for girl time ;-)
DeleteWhat a busy week! I think anyone looking in from the outside would think you're insane (but aren't we all???) Such a fun weekend together. I'll keep working on those planks!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you weren't feeling 100% - sounds like your body was fighting something all week. But so glad you had such a fabulous weekend with fellow runners and bloggers! Quality friendships are everything (and if they run, even better, LOL). I love it when you said "Every Run is a Gift". It truly is - this morning I struggled out of bed, but I had the rare opportunity to go for a morning run. So I forced myself out and in the beautiful, cool morning air, all I kept thinking was how lucky I am.
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you were feeling better by race day! Blogger meet-ups are so wonderful and fun.
