…and just like that, it’s time for one last visit to the ‘Fessional for 2024.
How can we already be past the holiday hustle and bustle and embarking on 2025? It just doesn’t seem possible.
Yet, there are a few remaining ‘Fessions that need disclosing before years end. Funny how some things never change, right?
Shall we get to it? One last ‘Fessional hurrah for the year?
As much as I love the holiday season, I always seem to be spot-on with my “procrastination game.” Believe it or not, I actually was ahead of schedule with my baking this year. Then I got the bright idea to do a batch of spritz cookies to stretch-out the mix of homemade goodies to share with my neighbors. My cookie press is tricky, especially if the dough isn’t just right (if it’s too soft, it sticks; too chilled, it won’t press through the discs). After several failed attempts, I cookie-fess I gave up and did the thumbprint thing. No one was any the wiser and they tasted just as good as the prettier ones.
Speaking of baking… ugh, the challenge of a new-to-me oven, coupled with finicky cookie dough, was a bit much for my patience. As if the too firm (and/or too soft) dough issue wasn’t bad enough, I also had to second-guess which rack would suffice, and for how long with the various cookies I was attempting to create. I have to bake-fess, I took copious notes and did a lot of scribbling on my already-worn recipe cards. And I may have eaten numerous “fails” in the process, LOL.
Most know of the annual run streak I do every winter. The 2024 edition has actually gone well considering the cold temps, the inoperable treadmill, and my busy work schedule. This was my first run streak in my new town, and it was my first time streaking much more in the dark than in daylight. Let me runfess, though, I feel like I conquered quite the conquest in logging all those daily miles.
My apologies for another rant about Iowa weather, but it’s been so flippin’ frigid! The layers have been in multiples and most of my streak runs have been short. That said, we haven’t had much snow. I’ll runfess it, here and now, at least it’s been nice not having to deal with messy streets for most of December. Glass half full!
Finally, I need to runfess to a small stumble and tumble recently. I landed on my left shoulder (seriously, that’s where I always seem to take the hit on my falls, LOL) and could feel my cheek scraping the concrete also. Thankfully, there wasn’t any telltale road rash on my face, but my shoulder did have some bruising. The biggest tragedy, though, wasn’t my skinned left knee, but the small hole that my favorite thermal running tights sacrificed in the process. My poor Koala Clip took one for the team as well.
I bakefess I had a really "vintage" cookie press that was so so good. My MIL gave me a new "motorized" one that absolutely sucked and went straight into the trash. I'm sure your cookies were delicious! Sorry about the fall! Not fun!
ReplyDeleteHoliday baking definitely requires lots of tasting for quality control :) Bummer on the fall but sounds like it was not too bad! Nice job keeping up that streak!
ReplyDeleteBummer about your thermal running tights and Koala Clip taking a beating in your fall, but glad you weren't hurt more seriously.
ReplyDeleteYour cookies look great despite the cookie press / dough temperature issues. I'm sure the thumb press cookies tasted just a good as the pressed ones.
I used to bake a lot around the holidays but now that it's just me and the hubby, I don't want us to eat all the cookies. I do miss them. Yours look delish.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cold here... it's hard to get out and when I do it's for a short time..
And where? Our paths are icy and will probably stay that way untilApril.LOL
I bakefess I am actually nervous about making cookies in my new oven and see many failures being tested in the near future... and I runfess that since moving 4 years ago (!!!) I hardly EVER run in the dark here. I don't know why, except that my old hood and running routes were just so well lit and here it's just not - or I have to go directly in town and that's not always ideal.
ReplyDeleteSorry you fell! somehow it's easier to accept a scraped knee or cheek even, rather than have a loved article of run clothing take one for the team!
Yikes sorry about your fall - glad you weren't hurt!
ReplyDeleteI was baking with a new oven this year too and definitely had to make some adjustments to a few receipes. Your cookies look oh so good :)
I runfess I still wear the running gloves I got a hole in (the palm) 4 years ago!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain with the baking. I love my press cookies but I have to make them first (before the kitchen gets too warm) and never ever make the dough ahead and refrigerate it. :-(
Aw! I have two cookie presses that are getting older and more cranky. I just found a way to pipe them and I think I'm going to try that next year!
ReplyDeleteIt's cold, but not as cold as by you! Stay on your feet! I don't want to see you getting hurt!
