Shall We MAYfess?

And, just like that, we’re back at the Runfessional.

Yes, May is winding down. Before we (or at least myself) can move on to June, a trip to the ‘Fessional is in order to wipe the slate clean.

Care to join me?

If you’ll allow me to begin, I’ll start by telling you about Tuesday, May 26th. What’s so significant about that day? It was Day-2,000 of my #OptOutside steak! It’s pretty incredible to think I’ve made it that long with this streak of getting outside on a daily basis. I gotta streakfess even I have a tough time believing it, given the ridiculous winters we have in Iowa.

It’s been an usually windy spring, and that’s saying a lot. This time last year, I had been out on the bike trail numerous times. This year, my first outdoor ride wasn’t until May 10th. That being said, I have been getting out on the trail pretty consistently since, and haven’t spent much time on the spin bike in recent weeks. On Memorial Day, my friend Sandy (from my former town) joined me for a 30-mile ride, and it was pure bliss (albeit windy). I’ll just bikefess that I couldn’t be happier to be back outside!

Speaking of biking, just this week I found out I was chosen to be on my company’s team for RAGBRAI! What this means is the team will ride two consecutive days (of the RAGBRAI week’s seven), with a charter to haul our bikes to our first day (Tuesday, July 21) and back to Des Moines after our second day (Wednesday, July 23). We also get team gear and don’t need to take PTO. Yes, I gotta jobfess, my company just keeps giving and giving, and I am so grateful to be a part of the organization.

Did I mention it’s been a windy spring? It’s also been a bit rainy in recent weeks, and there was an unexpected winter-like cold spell. In other words, my enthusiasm to get outside and get my flowers started has been at an all-time low. Finally, I made a trip to the garden center and came home with some floral purchases. If I can gardenfess, I’d tell you that now I want to get some landscaping started as well.

Lastly, my favorite race is happening (already) this weekend! It seems early, but DAM to DSM is always the Saturday following Memorial Day, which did come a little early this year. Nonetheless, I have my race packet and am about as ready as I can be. I have to DAMfess that I’m a little giddy as this will by my 19th consecutive  D2D.

Okay, I’ve probably had the floor long enough. I’ve said my May ‘fessions, so all is well. June can arrive with no remaining baggage.

Do you have any ‘fessions to share?

  1. That is great news about RAGBRAI! What a great company to work for! I jumped the gun big time with my garden and had everything in well before Mother's Day. I had to cover it all a few times due to frost but now I think we're out of the woods, finally.
