My First ‘Fessions of 2025

Well, here we are!

The new year isn’t so new anymore, and we are almost into February. Just like that!

It’s also (already) time for a few minutes at the ‘Fessional. We all have those things that just need released (and confessed among friends), and I’m no exception.

Shall we get this ‘Fession party started?

First-off, let me tell you about a little trail run from last weekend.
My local running club is sponsoring the Groundhog Grind on (you guessed it) Groundhog’s Day. It’s a 5K course that participants can run once or twice (if they want to do the 10K option). A bunch of us met last Sunday to “preview” the (yet-to-be-marked) course by running it virtually. Suffice it to say there were a few errant turns and accidental out-and-back turnarounds and my Garmin showed 7-miles when I finally made it back to my car, LOL. As with most trails through a heavily forested terrain, there were numerous hills, twists, turns, and plentiful tree roots underfoot. I gotta runfess, though, I felt more exhilarated than exhausted afterwards. Mind you, I still felt a lot of fatigue, but the adrenaline rush was even more pronounced.

Shall we discuss the erratic weather?
After what felt like the coldest week on record (at least this season), this current week had it feeling like spring. Seriously, we want from sub-ZERO feels-like conditions (for several days) to daily highs in the mid/upper 50-degree caliber. Yeah. I runfess that I took full advantage and sported shorts for one of my post-workday runs without reservation.

I finally bought the perfume.
Awhile ago, I was gifted a bottle of Chanel perfume. Try as I might, I did not care for the fragrance. I eventually “gifted” it to one of the daughters, who has a stash of “going out with the girls” perfumes (that she does not wear herself, but her gal pals have free access to, LOL). This cast-off perfume came with a tiny sample of Chanel Allure, which I absolutely adored. Hence, I’ve been using it very sparingly. I decided to (finally) just bite the bullet and buy a full-size bottle for myself. Little did I know, what I thought was a women’s perfume is actually a men’s cologne! There is a womens’ version, but that’s not the fragrance I fell in love with. Be that as it may, I perfumefess I’m quite content that I now have a full-size bottle in my possession, regardless of whom it was intended for!

I’m back on the stairs.
The Fight for Air Climb is March 30th this year, so I’m hitting the stairs at least once a week to keep my training in-check. This will be my first year training on the stairway in my new house. No big deal right? WRONG! This stairway has 15 steps, where my other one had 12. Believe it or not, those three extra steps add up over the spance of 50+ flights. I don’t plan to alter my “flight count” any. Instead, I am choosing to see this as a great opportunity to enhance my training…kind of like increasing the weights or reps when strength-training. I’ll even stairfess that I might try actually carrying hand weights with some of the stair workouts.

Finally, even Garmin is celebrating the Chinese New Year (and Eve).
I knew the Chinese New Year was fast approaching, but I didn’t realize the Chinese New Year Eve was also worthy of a Garmin badge. I guess it makes sense, since New Years Eve almost gets more attention than New Years Day (and there were badges for both of those events as well). Alas, I runfess it was a nice surprise when Garmin gave me the accolades for fitnessing on both days.

Well, that’ll have to do for now. I’ve ‘fessed enough for this go round, and I’m ready for February.

Do you have any new ‘fessions for the new year? Did you know the Chinese New Year Eve was a thing? Have you ever worn men’s cologne as your own?

I’m linking this with Marcia and the Runfessions linkup.

  1. I say if you like the scent, who cares who it was meant for? With all the inclusivity these days I'm surprised they can even specify anymore. Haha! All the best with the stair training!

    1. I was really surprised with the “fragrance” label as well. I’m just glad I finally have full access now with no worries of it running out :-)

  2. Ooh that's a good idea to carry weights for the stairs. I runfess that I have not yet followed through on my intention to add stair climbing into my routine. In my defense I'm traveling next week, but still...oh wait today is a new day so there's nothing stopping me from doing a simple 10 minutes of up the stairs and down the stairs, is there? Stay tuned!

    1. Also yay for getting the perfume that you loved! Or cologne as the case may be. It doesn't matter, a good scent is a good scent.

  3. I didn't really know Chinese New Year's Eve was a thing, but hey, why not? My daughter would approve of your perfume/cologne choice- she doesn't think things should be gender specific. AND, your trail run sounds FUN!!!

    1. All I know is this fragrance works for ME, and I have a bionic sense of smell. I have ZERO issue with how it’s labeled or marketed :-)

  4. You should definitely embrace and wear the scent you prefer! I wore Chanel years back at the same time my grandmother did :) I always love how you embrace your stair training- enjoy!

  6. I love the story about the perfume! When I was doing step tracking I sometimes used the stairs at home in the evening to get up to my daily 10,000 steps.
Keep up the good work with your blog!

    1. Thank you, Katie! The stairs, as you mentioned, offer a great way to increase your step count while adding some significant lower-body strength work to the mix!

  7. No one will know if it's men's or women's.. as long as it smells good.

    Enjoy the stairs...
