Damp and a bit Dreary

Can you say cloud cover? Or fog? How about continuous overcast conditions?

Such was the theme, in terms of weather, this week. Although we did get some (limited) intermittent sunshine, the bulk of the week featured damp air and cloudy skies. At least it never snowed, so there’s that.

Before I get to the nitty gritty deets of the week, welcome to the Weekly Run Down!

I love hosting this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner)! If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 8:00AM (EST) on Sundays and remains open through noon on Monday. We love reading about everyone's weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blog as well...please don't link-drop & dash ;-)

Anyways, here’s what went down in my little cloud-covered corner of the world:

Sunday - Sticking to the stairs
The morning was chilly, and I wasn’t feeling overly energetic…so we kept things inside:
**20 flights of singles on the stairway
***10 push-ups
**** repeat two more times****
—>60 total flights and 30 push-ups
Later, I got out for a quick 1-mile walk in the chilly afternoon air.

Never miss a Monday
The morning was damp and chilly outside, but hot and steamy in the basement. I had a time for 11 miles on the bike before getting ready for work. The skywalk was back to its chilly (winter) self for my 2-mile lunch walk (for those who were wondering).

After work, I high-tailed it home to get in a short run before the sun set. Little did I know that would be the last I’d see the sun for awhile.

Back to the typical Tuesday routine
Tuesday’s fitness included four miles on the elliptical and an upper-body strength session in the morning. I’d hoped to catch the lunar eclipse (because we all know I was up early enough for it), but the thick cloud cover prevented seeing anything.  As per usual, I managed a couple miles of walking over lunch (via the skywalk). I had every intention of a longer walk after work, but called it good after taking Max for a chilly and windy walk around the block instead. Brrr.

Another 4:45AM run on Wednesday
It was just Hannah, Bill (who veered off before we finished the route) and myself for the weekly 3-miler. Temps were in the high-30F range, with minimal wind. I was hoping to see the full moon, but it only peeked out for a brief few seconds, mid-run, then retreated back to the clouds. In addition to the daily 2-mile lunch walk, I also got out with Max for a bonus mile after work.

An action-packed Thankful Thursday

With questionable weather (again) in the forecast, I thought the early hours may be my best option to get outside. Also, I was hopeful to give the moon one last chance to make an appearance… to no avail. But, I had Deb’s company for not only that quick 1-mile run, but also for the 15-mile ride that followed.

After we parted ways, I hit the weights for a chest and back strength session. The day kept me busy with a 2-mile lunch walk, and another 2-mile walk after work.

Friday - more fitness fun
Friday’s pre-work workout included 12 miles on the bike and core work. I also did the usual 2-miler over lunch, and a bonus “outdoor” 1-mile walk after work.

(Somewhat) Stuck Inside Saturday…
A busy day on tap means an early morning workout, even on a Saturday. I was on the bike, just before 6:00, for 20 miles before getting ready for a morning coffee meet-up, then a visitation and Celebration of Life service for a dear friend’s husband (back in my former town). The wind was pure evil and cold, which is another reason I kept things indoors (successfully talking myself out of a long-ish run). I did do battle with said wind, though after getting home, for a short (and chilly) 1-mile walk.

…and what’s happening on Sunday?
Sunday, you ask? Sunday is the official start of the 2026 Week of Pi! I’m saving the first (of seven) 3.14-mile runs for the afternoon (the forecast is looking sunny and warm), but I’ll probably start the morning on the stairway.

So, overall, it was a decent week. Although the running mileage is back in the single digits (six total miles this week, ugh), there’s gonna be 21+ miles happening this next week…so all is well. Walking saw 17 miles. Biking was decent with 58 miles in the saddle.

In case you missed out, here’s what went down on the blog:

In other news:
Friday Fashion Flair. There is a famous Irish holiday headed our way soon, so I’m trying to keep in the spirit and wear a little more green than usual. Side note: my due date was march 17th, but I arrived a few days early, LOL, on Pi Day instead. Anyways, I usually wear this chunky and funky necklace and bracelet  with kiwi green and turquoise, but paring them with the darker green and teal actually worked much better than expected! I need to remember that for future outfits!

As most know, all this stair-training is prep work for the Fight for Air Climb. The big day is fast approaching (March 29th), and I’m feeling ready. This event is a nation-wide endeavor, benefiting the American Lung Association. For those who are interested in supporting the cause, here’s a link (HERE )to my fundraising page.

Finally, it’s been awhile since I’ve shared a pic of Max. I’d just given him a bath, and he was worn out from all the post-bath zoomies through the house. Just look at all his pretty curls!

So, that’s a wrap on my week’s antics.

How was your week? Any big events on the horizon? Crazy weather? Did you see the full moon, or the lunar eclipse?

  1. It was a wild weather week, wasn't it?

I saw on FB that Barb's husband
passed. So sad and I'm glad you were able to go to his service.

  2. We had a lot of fog at home — and in Chicago. One day you couldn’t even see the building next door!
I love that dark green top!

  3. We had an equally dreary week, but at least ours produced some much needed rain. And like you, I wasn't able to see either the full moon nor lunar eclipse.

Great to workout with you on Thursday! It's always nice when we can move at least a part of it outside.

  4. I'm so sorry for your loss. That's really hard.

We are back to hot, but with so much fog. Like you can't see anything at all anywhere! It helps to keep the sun under wraps, but it's kind of strange, too.

Max is sooo curly. How cute. And I do love all the green and nods to St. Patricks' Day. It's perfect. I got shamrock goodrs and a cute Lucky Charms sports bra and leggings set. Love it.

  5. Happy Pi Week! Glad you're having warm sunny weather to kick it off. You have a fun month ahead of you, with your birthday, St. Patrick's Day and your Air Climb as well. Hope the weather gets a little less dreary!!! The midwest is rough this time of year.
Love that green shirt and necklace combo! And Max.... so curly and cute!

  6. We had similar weather this week, but I was happy to finally get outside for a run before work! It had been too long I'm sure I'll be back on the treadmill soon because it looks like we have more wintry weather coming, but it was such a treat. Happy almost pi day!

  7. PI week is exciting for you.

We've had such awful weather but it's supposed to warm up this week and then cold again!!

We had a very foggy morning but now the sun is out... of course because it's a rest day.

  8. I'd love some fog because photos are always better with fog! Having said that, I loved our sunshine this week.
Nice work this week with all the activity you squeeze in here and there. Your mixed green outfit looks great! I can't believe St Patrick's day is next week already. I hope you get good running weather for your Week of Pi!

  9. InLinkz doesn't load for me today, btw! Maybe it'll work later.

  10. The fog and clouds were downright dreary in my part of Ohio all week! Does Max enjoy getting a bath? I had to trim my cat’s nails this week and that was stressful for all of us. Thankfully that’s all the care they need.

  11. I’m so sorry to read about Barb’s husband. I know you 2 are close. We also did not see too much sun this week and it’s been kind of a roller coaster weather wise. Such is March! Happy early birthday to you!
