Almost a Rainout

Well, it was quite a week!

It had been a long while since I’ve had the opportunity for a vacation, and Momma N had it in her mind to make it a memorable one. This one came complete with crazy air travel issues, torrential rain and all kinds of heat and humidity, courtesy of the city of Houston.

Nonetheless, it still was a nice little getaway in a new-to-me city…

Favorite Vacation Runs & Races

Hello, my name is Kim and I'm a runner who runs while on vacation.

I know I'm not alone in this addiction. After all, runners love to run, and exploring a new place (in one's running shoes) is a special kind of fix.

Not to be confused with a racecation, running-while-on-vacation is different. The first involves planning a trip around a race; the other involves running (and, often times, racing) while already on holiday. It's a fine line, I'll admit, but there are distinct differences.

The Great Equinox Escape

Don't we all need a little escape, from time to time?

Well, I certainly do. This past week blessed me with such a treat. After all, Winter was coming to a close (according to the calendar at least), and this called for a celebration!

Before I share the details, welcome to the Weekly Run Down!

Holiday Bowl National Funding 5K

When one travels cross-country for a bowl game, isn't it a given there would be an affiliated road race to do as well?

Or is that just a fortunate coincidence?

When the bowl games were announced earlier in December, the hubby indicated it would be fun to follow our Iowa Hawkeyes to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. We didn't have much time to consider the travel options...there are many Hawk fans (who are even crazier than us) and the airline tickets would go fast.

Flights booked, rental car secured, lodging accommodations reserved. Done!

Running with your own Sherpa

Have you ever had the luxury of running with a sherpa?

A sherpa, in the most basic sense, is someone who is along for the ride (or run), with the sole purpose of supporting someone else. A lot of endurance athletes (for example: runners who do ultra races that encompass double-digit hours on their feet) have a support crew to assist them throughout their event.

In my case, I was the runner (embarking on a long run in a strange place) and my hubby was my sherpa (carrying some of my gear, keeping me company and acting as a tour guide), via his bike.

Sounds like a perfect scenario, doesn't it?

Adaptability. Flexibility. Going with the Flow.

Adaptability. Flexibility. And going with the flow. That was the theme this week...

That's life, especially when you're a runner.

Weather was a factor. The muscles had their moments of crankiness. And there was a shift in routine, due to travel. Alas, everything worked out just fine.
