Kim be nimble, Kim be quick...

Kim be nimble, Kim be quick...
Remember that nursery rhyme about a little guy named jack? Well, I don't have any lighted candles to clear, but plenty of "fires" to tackle this spring.....

Back on the (weather) roller coaster

Well, this is Iowa.

Have you heard the saying that if you don't like the weather, give it a few hours? Yep. Iowa. I don't know where that quote originated, but it probably was an Iowan (or at the very least, a Midwesterner) who penned it.

This past week was a roller coaster ride in terms of weather.

Warm Weather...So, what's there to Runfess?

We've had some amazing weather in Iowa recently. February certainly was the polar opposite to January in terms of outdoor temps and sunshine. I have been outside everyday in some capacity, and it's been wonderful!

So, what's there to runfess? Well, although the recent weather has been fantastic, there are a few things I do not like about it...

Three Running Wishes

Have you ever fantasized that a Running Genie existed?

You know....they'd appear in a fluid puff of smoke from a magical foam roller, and graciously grant you three running-related wishes? (No? Am I the only one who's had such fleeting thoughts?)

Anyways, my running wish list is pretty lengthy. If I were to narrow it down to the top three, though, here's what I beg of my genie...

Yay for the sunshine!

Can I just say, "Yay for more sunshine!!!!"

February, at least in Iowa, has been well worth all the crap we endured in January. Of course, I make that grandiose proclamation knowing full well that these spring-like weather conditions most likely will not usher us into an early summer. I'm in Iowa, after all, and Momma N probably has at least one more "real" winter hurrah that she will dump on us if we pack away our parkas too soon.

Red Flannel Run - a Race I LOVE

Ever have a race that keeps you coming back, despite the (usual) adverse weather conditions? Well, I'm guilty (many times over).

Let me elaborate...

The Red Flannel Run, now in its 28th year, happens annually around Valentine's Day, in Des Moines, Iowa. For those who may be unaware, it gets pretty cold in Iowa in mid-February.

Back outside...it never felt so good!

Here we go again! I can't help but wonder if Momma N is finally showing me some love (though I am probably jinxing my fate by saying that out loud). Are you ready for it?

I did every run this past week OUTSIDE!

Cross-Training...what's not to LOVE?

Do you cross-train? (I hope so!)

There was a time, way back in my early days of lacing up, when running was my only sport (other than occasional walking). I was so excited to have finally found a niche for me in the fitness world, that I devoted all of my "sweat time" to running and running only.

On the run...with AC/DC

Who doesn't love a good run?

Give me some comfy shoes, a bright ensemble of clothing, and favorable weather conditions and I'm a very happy gal. If I'm running with friends, even better. But if I'm running solo, I usually prefer to have music with me.

Wind is a 4-letter word....

Well, I declare WIND to be the theme for the past week.

UGH. Momma N is really having some attitude (and she's giving me some as well).

Short-term challenges vs. long-term goals

Care to grab a drink (coffee, water, Gatorade...#your choice), and have a quick discussion?

Let's chat about short-term challenges vs. long-term goals, shall we? What's your preference?
