Spring’s First ‘Fessions

Is anyone else ready, willing, and needing to ‘fess a few things?

Well, I certainly have a few things to bring to the ‘fessional. After all, there’s never a dull moment, right?

I’ll get right to it…

First off, March 28th marks my 1-year anniversary of solo home ownership! I have to disbelief-fess, it’s hard to believe just how much stress I mustered through, for several weeks prior, before getting handed the keys to my new place. Although I spent that first night sleeping on the floor of my new master bedroom (all of my furniture was being delivered the next morning), I slept like a rock…much like a post-marathon nap.

A note from the realty company

Spring 2025 certainly came in like an angry lion. We’re talking a 40-degree overnight drop in temps, day-long rain, and crazy 50-60mph winds on the 19th and 20th. Some parts of the state even had blizzard conditions! None of the white stuff made it to my immediate area, but ugh. I weatherfess, Momma N was not playing nice with the winter exodus!

Speaking of my house, there’s been more decorating and updating! Since this place was a new construction acquisition, it didn’t come with any “extras” (existing hardware on cabinets, towel racks, etc.) or window treatments. This was not a bad thing, though, because it gave me free rein to customize such items. After much deliberation, and some significant procrastination, I purchased the kitchen cabinet hardware (drawer-pulls and door handles) a couple months ago. Just this week, a friend (with a power drill, LOL) drilled the pilot holes and I helped screw-in most of the hardware. We also installed window treatments in the dining room. Let me décorfess, it feels so good to have these projects completed! I still have the two remaining spare bedrooms and laundry room to paint (the drab beige isn’t working, LOL, and they need window treatments as well), but all of the main floor living space is done.

With it being spring and all, I have seen a plethora of robins frolicking about in recent weeks. I have to robinfess, though, they are rather camera-shy in my area. I have tried (in vain?) to capture a pic of these numerous “signs of spring” birds, but my photo attempts have come up empty. Hence, there are no such pics to share, LOL.

Lastly, I’ll share a few words (and a “hefty” vestfession) regarding the newly acquired weighted vest. Although I believe I will grow to love it, right now those feelings of affection are not too strong. I’ve taken it on several 2-mile walks, and (surprisingly) it doesn’t seem to affect my pace (which is a good thing!). That said, this 15-pound vest feels real bulky and a bit cumbersome, unfortunately (which is a buzzkill).  Once the warmer temps are more of a constant, and I won’t need to layer a jacket over it, I predict that will be a game-changer. I’m still in the very early stages of acclimating to it, so it’s too soon to make any rash decisions (though I wonder if I should have started with the 10-pounder?).

After a recent 2-mile power walk

Things (and ‘fessions) that make you go hmmm, right? I’ve shared enough for now, so I’ll leave these ‘fessions to stand on their own.

Would you like a turn at thefessional? What would you share?

I’m linking this with Marcia and the Runfessions linkup.

  1. Happy Homeiverssary! A year goes by fast.

I think your weighted vest needs a name. Then you could "go for a walk with Bertha" or whatever you decide to call it. But yes, it's a new friendship so it makes sense to start with less frequent meetups.

    1. OMG, how did I not think of giving the vest a name???? Who am I anyways? I’ll have to get that task underway pronto ;-) (thanks for the suggestion)

  2. Happy home-iversary! Your kitchen hardware looks great. I remember picking ours out and being shocked at the price per knob!

I am so irrational with outdoor gear. Walking Scooby I hate feeling cold so I tend to overdress, but running I can’t stand to be warm and would rather feel cold at the start. Maybe you’ll get used to the vest.

    1. These handles/drawer-pulls were $10 apiece! That was on the higher-end compared to most of the others. Also, the brushed chrome finish was a factor. Once I saw them, though, I knew they were the ones I wanted. As for the vest, I’m sure it will grow on me…it’s not been seven days thus far…

  3. I am sure I mentioned that I started with the 10lb vest and used it for a few months before moving to the 15lb. Now I don’t notice it all and I definitely notice the benefits. Give it another month and see how you feel. Also it’s better without the jackets and layers for sure. Congrats again on the one year anniversary-huge step and it is obviously for the better. You were the one who encouraged me to take on more projects myself.

    1. Yes, I did know about the 10-pound vest you had at first. I’m wondering if I should have been a little more conservative, at least in the beginning stages of this journey. Oh well, onward! I know it will get easier and will feel (almost) effortless after more miles are logged with it. Do you have any potential projects on your radar?

    1. Yes! There are too many options for kitchen hardware (also for the bathrooms, LOL). Let’s not even get started on the window treatment choices….

  6. That whole house-moving ordeal (plus buying the place in the first place) must have been so stressful, Kim—both mentally and physically. But you pulled it off! We’re tougher than we think, and all that training sure pays off when life throws heavy lifting our way. Well done!

I’m sure you’ll come to love the weighted vest—it’s such a brilliant way to build strength!

    1. You said that with perfection! All of the fitness training not only builds our physical strength, but it also enhances our mental perseverance. A year ago, the stress was unbelievable! I’m so grateful for having made it through that “jungle,” and I’m extremely thankful for all the support and encouragement I got from everyone ;-)

  7. Wow a year flies by so quicky. Happy anniversary to you and your new home! I've noticed robins here too...and geese nesting. I am all in for spring! Even though there's snow in the forecast for next week. Ugh .
