Once again, it’s time for some chatter, coffee and kinship.
It’s been a cold 2026 thus far. I’m always up for a warm beverage, and it’s a given I enjoy some friendly conversation with my peeps.
Care to join me?
As we’re gathering over coffee , I’d start the conversation with my January stats. I’ve got mixed feelings on these numbers. My running miles are WAY down (I blame the insanely extreme cold and psychotic wind). My walking is legit, thanks to the skywalk (my go-to over the lunch hour). My biking miles, though, are looking pretty sweet (no regrets there).
As we’re gathering over coffee, I’d have to gush over the sneak peek of Spring we had this week. The temps were in the low-50F range on Thursday. Can I say it was euphoric to go for a run with bare legs? Yes, 50F temps feel pretty balmy in February!
As we’re gathering over coffee, I’ll tell you about my February Challenge. My abs are feeling (and looking) mushy. Ugh. So, I brought back the daily 3X1-minute gig, featuring 1-minute forearm side planks (each side) and a 1-minute wall sit (because my quads are needing some toning as well). So far, so good.
As we’re gathering over coffee, I have to whine a tiny bit about the my achy back. It’s deep into basketball season, so I’m spending more time than usual on the couch watching my Hawkeyes and Spartans. I’m usually slouched in a comfy position, sharing some popcorn with Max…only to feel like the Tinman when I try to stand afterward. Not an ideal situation, but manageable.
Finally, as we’re gathering over coffee, I’ll tell you about a couple more daily games I have been doing on repeat for a while now. These games found me, via LinkedIn. One game is Zip, which is kind of like a timed numbered maze challenge. The other is Mini Sudoku, which is similar to the traditional version, but timed as well. Obviously, I am quite the intellect, LOL.
Anyways, as we’re gathered over coffee, I’m realizing that I’m due for a refill. That said, I’ll let someone else have the floor.
That’s all I got for now. Anything you’d like to share?
Since it's the first weekend of the month, I'm linking this with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date

Those January stats totally make sense. With that wind and cold, biking miles are a smart swap. Nice to get a hint of spring in February!
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing out those two games, Zip and Mini Sudoku. I love little daily games, I'll definitely have a look at those!
I think both games are “sponsored” by LinkedIn, so you may need to have an account (?), but definitely worth trying them out ;-). I really should bit the bullet and get a treadmilll, even though I’d seldom use it. AT least I could knock-out a few short runs now and then on the bitter cold and windy days.
Delete50's is close to our low, and yet I still feel it's cold (but only because I just came back from Thailand where it was in the high 90's!!).
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to do more core (+ lifting) again!
Well, 50-degrees temps feel MUCH warmer in February than they do in September, LOL. I know they’re not gonna last (it was 30F this morning, with 15mph wind…again), but they’re a nice break from the bitter cold.
DeleteI missed our thaw when I was up in Boston. We are back to frigid this weekend. Our yard is still a smooth slab of snowcrete!
ReplyDeleteMy January miles are low b/c of all my tread running. I usually aim for 3.5 miles vs. the 4-5 I do outside. We do what we can and keep active different ways!
Yes, we gotta make do…until the weather improves.
DeleteI have just the thing for your low back- yoga with Adriene! She has some videos on Youtube specifically for low back pain.
ReplyDeleteYou got up to 50 this week and we got down to 30! This is the craziest winter ever.
I like that 3x1 challenge! I've also started doing wall sits, but I don't do them every day. I guess I should start!
I like the 1-minute “holds.” They go fast! I should up the challenge and go for 1:30…
DeleteI'm jealous of your thaw! We still in the deep freeze here with no end in sight...sigh.
ReplyDeleteI've let me core work slide - might be time to climb back on the plank bandwagon too.
Core work is SO easy to slide on! The planks keep me accountable, but I really need to commit to more consistency with core work.
DeleteWhen I slack on stretching, that’s when my back gets tight. I have wordle , mini crossword, connections and spanogram in the am to wake me up. Now I am back on Crossplay (like the old words with friends) Gotta stay sharp!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I need to check-out Crossplay! I’m always up for a new challenge ;-)
DeleteOooh send some of those 50s this way! I think we're supposed to hit maybe 40 next week but that's about it. Nothing close to 50. When is spring again? Nice job on the core work!
ReplyDeleteI think we’re supposed to see 50’s on Monday and Tuesday as well…it’s gonna be a tough reality when the real February weather returns!
DeleteYour running mileage may have been quite a bit less than usual, but you certainly got in a lot of cross-training miles!
ReplyDeleteGood job on doing those daily brain games. I really need to start doing some of those.
I had a couple weeks with barely any running at all (one mile for one, and two miles for the other, LOL). I’m hopeful the worst of the cold is behind us, so I can get back to my usual 3-4 runs/week.
DeleteOh, I love those little LinkedIn games! I love Pinpoint and Crossclimb too! Spring will be here soon!
