An Early Spring Coffee Chat

Anyone up for a warm beverage, and some chatter among friends?

After all, it is (finally) the spring season, and the Midwest weather is nothing if not unpredictable. There’s plenty to talk about, though, and we don’t even have to bring the weather into the conversation.

Go ahead,  grab a favorite beverage, and join me around the virtual table!

At our coffee chat, I’d start be sharing my fitness stats from March. I’m still not rocking very high mileage in the running shoes, but I’m keeping consistent with the daily walking (the Des Moines skywalk can vouch for that, as can the numerous peeps I see walking over the noon hour). Biking, again, gets huge accolades (all of these miles are via the spin bike saddle). I’m eager to get back out on the trail…hopefully  the increasing post-workday daylight, and gradually rising temps, will have me spending less time indoors on the spin bike.

At our coffee chat, I’d tell you about a special Facebook memory that popped up this week. It highlighted my first run, in my new town, on the day after I closed on my new house. Yikes, it’s hard to believe I’ve been in Bondurant two years already!

At our coffee chat, I’d have to ask if any of you have heard of, or tried, these pretzel nuggets? Where have these been all my life, or at least in my adult years? I bought them, on a whim, for a recent party, and I have not been able to keep my hands out of the pretzel jar. These little peanut butter-filled pretzels, and are a small taste of heaven.

At our coffee chat, I’d have to do a small not-so-humble brag about a recent victory with a Wordle game. I usually start each game with the word FIRST. This particular game, I tried a different starter word, which got me nowhere, LOL. In a small state of panic, I threw out a rather random second word, SWAMP. Imagine my surprise to find out that was the Wordle word of the day!

At our coffee chat, I’d lament about another near-fail of a full moon run. March’s full moon run involved three attempts, all of which were under thick cloud cover. At Wednesday’s 4:45AM run, the moon was shining bright, for most of the duration. It tried going back undercover, but I was able to capture a quick pic with it. I would much rather have done the full moon run in the evening, under a clear sky…but desperate times, desperate measures, right?

Finally, at our coffee chat, I’d have to tell you about my crazy successful April Fool’s prank. I told numerous people, via text messages as well as a Facebook post, that I’d won tickets to see Guns N‘ Roses in Las Vegas. I didn’t realize I was such a convincing story-teller, but not one person called me out or challenged my proclamation, LOL. I did come clean, the next day, and righted my wrong.

Anyways, those are a few things I’d bring to the table, if we were chatting over coffee.

If you joined the conversation, what would you care to share? Did you pull any April Fool’s pranks?

  1. Oh, well done at getting SWAMP in two!!! Abandoning your system and accidentally getting it right is pure magic!
It's fun to see everybody's strategies. I used to use "About" as a first word, then somebody told me that "Teary" is better. I tried it, and it really does work better.
Maybe now I should try "First" or "Ditch"!

    1. TEARY is a good word as it has two vowels and the T and R are very common consonants I came a up with FIRST for the same reason, since it has RST in it. I've also used IRATE on occasion.

  2. You've been in Bondurant two years already? Wow, time flies!

Those peanut butter filled pretzels are my kryptonite! I really shouldn't buy them because once they're opened I can't keep my hands out of the jar. During one of our long cycling events, one of the rest stops had a huge bowl of them. I shoved a couple of handfuls in the back pocket of my jersey and snacked on them during the final miles. I was so happy!

I quit doing Wordle a few years ago. I should get back to doing it again...

  4. Keep those peanut butter pretzels away from me!!! They are so addictive. And delicious. Obviously.
I did not pull any pranks on April Fool's Day. I was braced for something from my daughter, but she didn't do anything either. I guess we're just boring!

  5. I don't know, sometimes when you put things out into the universe they come true. Maybe your April Fools joke will end with you somehow getting tickets to GNR!!!

Midwest weather: check! We had a few snowflakes, severe thunderstorms, and now we're in the midst of lovely warm sunshine.

Swamp day was a 6/6 guess for me, but I got it in 3 today. Gotta take the brags where I can get them.

  6. Nicely done on getting SWAMP in two. I usually start with EARTH but have been having very mixed results lately.

Those peanutbutter pretzels would be dangerous for me LOL a perfect combo!

    1. Not much for flowers here, either, though I can see some daffodils starting to poke through the ground.
