…and, just like that, October is winding down.
That being said, it’s time (already again) to hit the ‘Fessional and clear the air (and my head).
Every month, several of us take our respective turns and share a few (or several) Runfessions amongst one another. It’s a great means to the month’s end, as well as a chance to wipe our slates clean (fitness and otherwise) before the new month begins.
So, here goes…
I probably mentioned (or whined about) the weather in last month’s Runfession post. That’s because September showed Iowa near record-setting rainfall totals. October, however, has blessed us with almost record-setting warmth. We all know I much prefer the latter, for running and just life in general. I’ll runfess it loud and clear, if the Iowa fall season could be like we had in October, all season long, I’d like it SO much more .

Next, I’ve been in a bit of a cycling funk. There has not been much outdoor biking since August, due to September’s nonstop rain, October’s dwindling daylight after work, and busy football weekends. Scott and I got out for a ride, last weekend, and we were chasing daylight, big time, for the last couple of miles. Ugh, I hate to cyclefess it, but that may be the last time we hit the trails (on wheels) for 2026. Sigh.

Now that the IMT Des Moines 13.1 is in the rear view mirror (recap HERE), I’m looking forward to focusing a little more on strength work. I’ve never let it disappear from my regimen, but I have scaled-back more than desirable in recent months. I cued-up a short, but crazy intense, shoulder and back workout, and also had a booty-burning lower-body session this week….oof! The muscles were majorly on fire! I gotta strengthfess, that muscle burn felt oh-so-good!

Speaking of my recent half marathon, I’ve been a bit dumbfounded, but extremely grateful, for the lack of DOMS and any post-race aches, pains, or discomforts in general. Even prior to race day, the last few long-distance training runs felt incredible. It kind of makes me wonder if the long-distance runs are my ticket to escaping those typical running-related problems. Let me runfess the temptation to do double digit runs every weekend, from here on out, is pretty significant, LOL.

Finally, as much as I love running, I can honestly runfess that I am looking forward to the offseason (I was kidding about doing weekly double digit runs indefinitely). It is nice to not have any “mandatory” training mileage on the roster for awhile. The only event I have coming up is a new-to-me turkey trot, on Thanksgiving morning.

Well, that’ll have do for now. My runfessions have been made known, and I can scoot into November with a clear mind. That feels almost as good as my recent half marathon!
You’ve heard mine. How about YOU? Any runfessions that need to be addressed or disclosed?
I’m linking this with Marcia for the monthly Runfessions link-up.
