August's 'Fessions? Full Tilt!

There's nothing like a good cleansing session at the 'Fessional.

Let's just say that things have been a little crazy, and my world has been a little topsy-turvy recently. And, the dwindling daylight has got me in a bit of a funk (seriously, I really hadn't much noticed the days getting obviously shorter until this week!).

Unloading a few 'fessions does wonders for one's mind, body and sole(s), if you know what I mean.

Shall we get right to it?

First off, I have become a Peloton fan. My 2-month free trial ended in late-January, but I have (obviously) stayed with the program. I love the variety of workouts available, via the app. I am also quite grateful to be self-disciplined to keep myself busy and active without leaving the confines of my house. That said, I just finished the 4-week Arms With Tunde program AND Matty's 5-week Hot Five Core Challenge ...and I Pelofess that I'm glad to have both of those in the rear view mirror. Tunde's workouts were short (but intense) and involved three days of work each week. Matty's core classes were only 10 minutes in length, but they happened Monday thru Friday for each of the five weeks. I like having some structure, but doing these two simultaneously was a bit much. I have ZERO regrets, but am glad to have a little more flexibility back in my fitness life.

Oh, my dear new Garmin. I've recently realized that I'm becoming one of those who grabs the Garmin every time I lace up the shoes or hop on the bike (don't worry, I'm still not wearing it 24/7). On one of my bike path rides, though, I'd gotten a ways down the road before I realized I'd left the "wrist candy" back at home. I was running late (meeting-up with Amy), so I didn't have time to go back for it. I panicfess that, for a split second, I had an ounce of remorse. A few seconds later, I bikefess that I said a big "Oh well" and didn't think about the "lost" ride again. Garmin doesn't need know, or record, my every move, right?

Care for an update on the orchid? This little beauty continues to amaze me!, I flowerfess, it makes me smile every time I look at it. It was almost a month ago, on August 4th, when the first pic (on the right) was taken. Now, three weeks later, three of the blossoms have opened! The other stem (not visible in the other pic) has seven buds, and two of them are dangerously close to blooming as well. These current "blooming antics" happened on a much faster time table than last time...the buds appeared much sooner (after the previous blooms had dropped), and they bloomed within weeks (rather than months).

I am still opting outside. My #OptOutside streak officially began on Thanksgiving Day 2020, with our local turkey trot. It continued, daily, until New Years Day 2021, as part of my winter run streak. Come January 2nd, I decided to just keep going. I have most definitely not run everyday since then, but I have gotten outside for some form of fitness. As of Friday (August 26th), I am now at Day-639 (how's that for a nice quirky number?). Although I've made it through two cold winters, I gotta streakfess it is much easier to keep at it in the warmer months (another reason I don't want my summer to end).

Finally, I'll end with a funny story. After 10 days of Covid isolating (eight of which were WFH days), I loaded up all my work gear and headed back to the office on Thursday. Wouldn't you know? A the strap - on a favorite pair of sandals - bit the dust after arriving at work. I didn't have time to drive back home and switch-out my shoes either. What's a gal to do? I keep a pair of ugly Crocs flip flops at the office, and wear them for my walk breaks... so I fashionfess that I wore those, instead, until I went home for lunch. Lovely, huh!

Anyways, those are the August 'fessions (at least the ones that I'm choosing to share, LOL).

Do you have anything (or several) that needs sharing?  Do you prefer structure with your workouts, or do you like to have a flexible routine? Have you ever panicked upon realizing you'd forgotten your Garmin (or fitness tracking device)? Ever have a sandal strap break on you?

  1. I don't use Peloton as much as some, but I use it enough to keep it.

I don't record my stationary bike on it though (once in a blue moon), because it doesn't really work all that well. But I do wear it 24/7 -- there are metrics I track that are very useful to me. I take it off for Yoga, though, LOL!

    1. I probably won't wear my Garmin when I'm back in the indoor bike. Then again, maybe I will. Will it even "know" how far I'm going, though, since I won't actually be covering any ground?

  2. I mostly wear my Garmin for running but it's no biggie if I don't. I really liked it when I was serious about my training and for triathlon. Now? Not so much. Good thing you had those office Crocs!

  3. I've always worn a watch to record my miles--even back in the day when there were no Garmins, I had a Timex Ironman watch! I don't like to think about miles, etc when I'm running and it's great to have the watch do it for me. Plus, I'm kind of a numbers nerd and I like to look at the stats.

    1. Most of my routes I already know the distance, which is why the other Garmin didn't get as much use unless I was racing or doing a "long" run in unknown territory. This one has a lot more bells and whistles, and a lot more stats, so it's more interesting to play with after I finish a run or a ride.

  4. I only wear my watch for running and sometimes a long walk. I like to have the monthly stats. I also have all of my Peloton classes push to my Garmin for rundown reminders. Great thing you had those extra shoes!!

    1. I am loving seeing all the weekly stats, for both biking and running. I do so much walking, if I ever start wearing it for that, it'll be a "down the rabbit hole" thing, LOL.

  5. I didn't stick with the Peloton app for very long, but I was really impressed at the variety of workouts. Keeping it is a no brainer if you use it at all.

I'm going to make the prediction that you'll end up as a daytime Garmin wearer at least. It's just so handy to have around. For me personally, I don't like the band that it comes with so I changed it out with a magnetic one which IMO looks better and makes it easier to adjust on the fly. The only reason that I ever wear it at night is because it's also my alarm clock - I don't like the sleep tracker.

I'm amazed at your green thumb on the orchid, and yes I've had a few "wardrobe malfunctions" with sandals and ended up with a strange work outfit as a result. Thank goodness for WFH!

    1. I was really surprised how much I've enjoyed the Peloton app. It's very convenient, and I've been able to take advantage of a lot of the different workouts and instructors' classes.

  6. I used to use Peloton more but just not into it.. I will cancel after my free months.

I also do not care about my stats. I only wear my Garmin for races.

Yes, I'm still a runner. My blog keeps me accountable.

    1. I'm totally eating the crow on how much I've been wearing this new Garmin because the other one didn't get used much (other than, like you, for long runs or races).

  7. I do like some structure in my workouts, but I agree that doing both those programs at the same time would be a bit much. Not that you weren't working out every day, but your life doesn't entirely revolve around Peloton. Actually I'm glad you reminded me about Matty's core program- maybe I'll start it next week.
If I forgot my garmin for a run, I'd do the same as you- panic for a moment and then just go on without it. I know the mileage of all my shorter routes- the only time it would mess me up would be for a long run when I'm exploring more. Then I guess I would just go by time. But I wouldn't be too happy about it!

    1. I'm not usually so "OCD" with my stats, but this new Garmin really has a lot of interesting info. I fear if I fell into the routine of wearing it every day, though, I'd have panic attacks if I ever forgot to do so, LOL.

  8. I had a whole entire heel come off a shoe! that was a bad day! Glad you're feeling better. I always wear my Garmin. I hate not having a watch.

    1. I used to wear a watch all the time (just not a Garmin-type of one). I'm not sure when I fell out of that habit, but I'm definitely not in the routine of doing that these days...yet.

  9. Good to know you are liking your watch. I will not go out on a run without it but I still do not wear it all of the time.

  10. Kudos to you for taking on both the Tunde and Matty programs at the same time! I pelo-fess I started Matty's program but I got bored of doing the same workouts and bailed at week 3.

I actually wear my Garmin daily because I'd really miss having a watch on. I'm not too stressed about my stats.
