Another Streak: Done!

Indeed. Another Runner’s World Winter Run Streak is in the rear view window.

What started as a supposed once-and-done ordeal has returned every year since 2013. Whodda thunk?

This particular streak was different from all previous ones, in so many ways and on so many levels.

Care to hear some thoughts, observations and details? Read on..

Most of the runs were in the dark…
Truth! That is not an exaggeration! Going through the 2024 Streak stats, there were 36 days of streaking (beginning on November 27th and ending January 1st), and 23 of those daily runs were done in the dark. With my early morning work schedule, and late afternoon commute home, there weren’t any of the coveted “runches” happening this year. I took advantage of the daylight on the weekends, though, and there were a few bonus days of daylight-enhanced running, but the bulk of the Streaking miles involved the Noxgear lighted vest.

Most of the streaking happened outdoors…
While I had every intention of doing some of the streak runs on the new-to-me treadmill, those lofty plans came to a crashing halt on Day-7. I was a measly five seconds into that day’s run when the treadmill unexpectedly sped up super fast (all on its own)…and then came to an abrupt stop. And I have not been successful in reviving said treadmill since. I can’t say it was a big loss, but still.

The 2024 streaking mileage was low in comparison to years past…
What can I say? December 2024 was much colder than usual. My 36 days of streaking saw 75 cumulative miles, and an overwhelming majority of the runs were 2-milers or less. Actually, 16 of those streak runs were simple, short and sweet 1-mile jaunts (one of which was the December full moon run). It was what it was, LOL.

This was my first time streaking in my new locale…
Although I had full access to the nearby trail, I only utilized it on the weekends when I had ample daylight. As a result, the 23 in-the-dark runs were somewhat lacking in variety. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, though, because I had a lot of decorative holiday light displays to enjoy while running. That said, streaking on the trail, in shorts on an especially warm Saturday afternoon, was pretty epic!

I didn’t get very creative in holiday-themed attire this year…
Oops, my bad! I actually forgot about my ugly holiday leggings until the final week or so before Christmas. Also worthy of noting: I didn’t fall victim to daily selfies for each of those daily runs, and I was okay with that. Right? What’s up with that (and I call myself a blogger)?

Nonetheless, I still consider the 2024 RW Run Streak a success! Honestly, I’ve been doing this winter streak gig for so long, it’s just part of my holiday seasonal routine. It’s always my last (running) hurrah of the year, and it gets me through the Winter Solstice. I “run-in” the new year every January 1st, and have never once felt any remorse in taking January 2nd off from the running shoes.

From trotting on Thanksgiving to celebrating the arrival of 2025

Alas, all is well. Despite a few hiccups with cold (and windy) weather and limited daylight opps, I didn’t dread or regret any of those 75 miles of streaking. Now I can just coast for awhile…after all, I have another 46-ish weeks until I have to do it all over again.

Would you ever consider streaking through the holidays…whether it be running, walking, or just a few minutes of daily fitness?

  1. Yay Streak 2024! I only did it once, and it was such a lovely tribute to the season. I'd encourage everyone to try it - just once! Even though I don't really run anymore, I'd like to do it again sometime. It just wasn't in the cards for this year.

  3. Hooray. You are so inspiring.

Truth is I don't run in the dark unless I have to and never in the am.

Also I never run streak but I do plan to run OR walk OR workout everyday (if possible).

  4. Congrats on another streak well done! There were some crazy cold days in December, and running in the dark cold is not for the faint of heart - great job!

  5. the run streak was absolutely a success! It can't always be epic, right? are you still at the same job though Kim? Just different hours? As you know I am still #everydayactive streaking and now on day 741 :D (it was a walk streak and I missed one day, but biked and gymed on that day and just forgot to walk...)

    1. This a relatively new job, since late October. The hours are much longer than what I’d been used to, so it’s been a tough adjustment.

  6. Well done! It's absolutely a total success! I have been on my current streak for at least a year, now (I believe - I have to add it all up), and I have no problem keeping it going through the holidays. Congratulations!
