It’s been quite a month.
There was some tapering going on. The IMT Des Moines Half Marathon went off much more smoothly than I could have ever anticipated. And, there’s been some recovery.
That said, there’s a few ‘fessions I need to share before October comes to a close…
First off, I’m closing-in on a 2-week sabbatical from all things running. Let me runfess it here and now…I have felt ZERO FOMO in doing so. I have kept plenty active with the usual daily walking, intermittent biking, and brought back the elliptical into the fitness mix. No regrets!

More miles logged on the bike
Even with this extended recovery from the IMT Des Moines Half Marathon (recap HERE), my hips are still feeling kind of funky. In fact, I’d say they almost feel more stiff (?) now than they did pre-race. Yes, I’m gonna runfess that I’m a little annoyed they’re not feeling as “recovered” as I was hoping. They’re not feeling any worse, thankfully, but ugh.
When I made the decision to take an entire week off from running (and then extended it another week), I was a little anxious about the mileage deficit that would result. Well, that anxiety was very short-lived. I can honestly runfess that the mileage numbers aren’t worth any excess thoughts or regrets. Though I do log all the miles, I’ve never been obsessed with them. Besides, quality over quantity serves me much better. And, here I am…almost two weeks sans running. Whodda thunk?

No running happening
Finally, I have to Halloweenfess that Halloween 2025 has pretty much been a bust. My town decided to have Beggars’ Night last Saturday evening, I kid you not. I was totally out of the loop on this tiny detail, so I didn’t have any candy on hand. It wasn’t until I was leaving the house, to go for a walk, that I noticed cars parked everywhere and numerous parents and kids walking with bags-in-hand. Major oops. Also, my place of work has a lot of home office peeps working remote on Fridays…so we had our dress-up day on Thursday instead of actually on Halloween itself. Things that make you go “Hmmm…”

Happy Halloween…a day early
Whew, that’s much better! I’m already feeling much better and my “soles” have been cleansed. October can now make its exit, and November is free to enter the scene.
Those are my ‘fessions for October, do you have any? Have you ever taken an extended sabbatical from running? Are you ready for Halloween…or have you already celebrated?
I'm linking this with Marcia for the monthly Runfessions link-up
