Recovery. Recovery. Recovery.

Recovery. Recovery. Recovery. ‘Nuff said.

So, this was another week with another emphasis on active recovery. It’s been several years since I’ve taken an extended sabbatical from running, but I’m doing fine (not much FOMO). Can I just say it’s a nice break from the usual OCD weather-stalking?

That said, active recovery does not mean sleeping-in or excess time on the couch, at least not in my  world…

Before I dis on the deets, welcome to the Weekly Run Down!

I love hosting this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner)! If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 8:00AM (EST) on Sundays and remains open through noon on Monday. We love reading about everyone's weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blog as well...please don't link-drop & dash ;-)

Anyways, here’s what went down in my little world of fitness and whatnot this week:

Sunday saw some walking…
Remember the weughted vest? I have kept it near my front door ALL summer, but I got in the bad habit of forgetting to grab it. Sunday morning we were reunited, A couple miles before church, done. There also was some “shopping walking” with the sister, and more late afternoon walking in the sunshine.

Never Miss a Monday
I may have “missed” the usual Monday run routine, but the cardio was still happening. We started the day with six miles on the bike, then added a couple miles of noontime walking and a couple more walking miles after work.

Taking things easy (again) on Tuesday
More low/no impact was on the roster, this time with the elliptical (supposedly four miles, LOL). Afterwards, I did a short strength workout on the arms before heading to work. There was more walking over the lunch hour (two miles) and after work (one mile on my own, and a walk around the block with Max).

Wednesday…more time on the bike
Momma N decided we needed more rain in the early morning hours, so the group run didn’t happen. I wasn’t planning on running anyways (so no FOMO!), but I did get on the bike for 10 miles. The day also featured 4-1/2 miles of walking.

Another Thankful Thursday
It’s always a fun morning when Deb and I join forces. I got in 20 miles on the bike before our virtual good-byes.

Afterwards, I grabbed the weights for some more upperr-body strength work (via Peloton). My chest, back, and both arms were throbbing by the time I finished.

Friday fitness…
Another chilly (and dark) morning, I got outside for a quick 2-mile walk before heading to work. I, again, did more walking over lunch (two miles), but after taking Max around the block after work, I decided the cold and wet and windy conditions weren’t selling me on any more miles. So, I took it inside and stayed there, LOL.

Saturday - even more inside riding
Ugh, the early morning weather  was  damp and windy (have I already said that???), so it was just me and the spin bike. I got 25 miles done, and then took Max for a 1-mile walk (to cool off: mission accomplished).

… and what’s on-deck for Sunday?
The forecast is showing cold temps, and some wind (ever reminiscent of winters past). I’m probably gonna hit the elliptical or the bike again in the morning, and save the outdoor fitness pursuits for the afternoon. Things that make you go “Hmmm…”

So, another week with ZERO miles in the running shoes. I’m not sure when the “first” post-13.1 run will happen, but there is a full moon happening this next week (#JustSaying #StayTuned). Walking showed 27 miles, and biking had a solid 61 miles in the saddle. All good!

In case you missed out, here’s what all went down on the blog:

In other news:

Friday Fashion Flair. We’d already had our Halloween dress-up extravaganza the day prior (see below), but I was still feeling the Halloween spirit. After all, it’s not everyday you can don the spider web top (and laggings) and get away with it in an office setting.

Garmin awarded a couple of badges for my walking efforts. I was especially happy to already have the Stage 4 Walking badge completed, only 31 days in!

And… Halloween, anyone? Did you dress up? A lot of our home office peeps work remotely on Fridays, so Thursday was our designated “Halloween” at work. I had to make my genie get-up office-appropriate, LOL, but everyone knew who I was.

Happy Halloween…a day early

So, that’s a wrap on the past week! The recovery continued, and all went well.

How was your week? Fall weather: icky or pleasant? Any fitness highlights? Upcoming races? Did you stay up later, or sleep-in longer, with the time change?

  2. Nice job taking a break from running but staying active! Your Halloween costume is cute! I wore my usual Wonder Woman costume, but oddly, I saw so many families fromm other countries on Friday that I'm not sure they knew who I was or why I was wearing the costume!

  3. You had a very productive week as you continued your race recovery!

I love your I Dream of Genie costume. No one would know that you modified it to make it office-appropriate if you didn't tell them.

I went to bed at my usual time and got up at my usual time so I got a bonus hour of sleep!

  4. Oh my gosh, your costume is fantastic! That’s awesome. We had a costume day on Wednesday, but I had clients visiting from Munich, so I just wore a black dress and called it festive.

I bet the full moon will draw you out!

  5. Your genie costume is perfect. You rock it and I think it translated perfectly to office appropriate. We had senior night, so no costumes here. I have my ideas for next year, though :). Your active recovery plans are going beautifully. I'm really proud of you for sticking to those longterm goals!

  6. FINALLY, I can say our weather was great! It cooled down to the upper 50s and low 60s overnight, and I'm loving it.
So, that's a lot of miles on the spin bike! Just out of curiosity, what do you do to keep yourself sane? Podcasts? Music? I would definitely need something!
How are the hips feeling? Are you taking time off because they're still sore? All the walking and biking you're doing should heal them up. Hope you can get out for your full moon run!
