Not quite sure how it happened …
This week has to be the easiest recovery week on record. If nothing else, it ranks right up there in the top-3 of active recovery endeavors.
In a nutshell, there was plenty of walking, some strength work, and substantial biking. Also, there was some running, but the miles were kept to a conservative minimum.
Before I get into the nitty gritty deets of the week, welcome to the
Weekly Run Down!I love hosting this link-up with Deborah (from Confessions of a Mother Runner)! If you write a fitness-based blog, you're invited to join the party. The link-up opens at 8:00AM (EST) on Sundays and remains open through noon on Monday. We love reading about everyone's weekly fitness endeavors, training highlights (or low lights) and race recaps. We ask that you link back to both hosts, and we encourage you to read/comment on the other linked blog as well...please don't link-drop & dash ;-)
Anyways, here’s what went down in my little world of fitness, fun, and whatnot this week:
Low-impact on Sunday
Not even 24-hours off of Saturday’s DAM-to-DSM, the morning started with some walking, and there was more of that in the afternoon (four total miles of walking).
That evening, Iowa was blessed with nearly clear skies. The forecast had shown cloudy conditions for several days prior, so I was able to get out for the Blue Moon Run on schedule. I had been anticipating running said full moon run on Monday, so it was nice to have it done. Turns out, Monday's evening sky was unexpectedly cloudy, LOL.

Never Miss a Monday
FYI, it’s already mulberry season! My morning 2-mile walk featured numerous berry stains on the trail. I also walked a couple of miles over lunch, and did a lap around the block with Max before dinner. The post-workday run was on the muggy side, but no complaints on the lack of DOMS from D2D. I also spent a little time with a standing core workout (Peloton).
Easy-Peasy Tuesday
It was another low-impact day in the fitness shoes. The morning saw a 2-mile sunrise walk. The evening featured more walking (2-1/2 miles) and an arms/shoulders strength session (Peloton).
Global Running (Wednes)Day…and then some
This day saw all kinds of action, starting with a 4-mile run with Hannah. After returning home, Max took me for a quick walk. Since I still had a good hour before getting ready for work, I decided to take Krystal out for a 5-mile ride. It had been ages since I’ve done an early morning ride, and this was a nice one! There also was walking over lunch (outdoors!), and a bonus 10-mile ride after work. I later learned that Wednesday also was World Biking Day!
Thankful Thursday
I was up and out the door at 5:00AM for 4-1/2 miles of weighted vest walking with
Deb. I thought I’d be borderline chilly with the mid-60F temps, but I was actually “ glistening and glowing” substantially by the time I made it back to my driveway.

Later, after we parted ways, I dialed-up an upper-body workout (Peloton). The humidity had returned to Iowa, so the lunchtime walk happened indoors, via the skywalk.

| Note: the 4.19 miles were via the walking shoes (#GarminError) |
Low-Key Fitness FridayNothing crazy to report, just some early morning walking in the morning.
With PTO in the afternoon, I was able to hit the trail for 14-ish miles on the bike. Have I mentioned how great it feels to be back on the trail (and out of my basement)?
Long Ride Saturday
There was more low-impact cardio on the roster for Saturday. The early morning featured a couple miles of walking, then 24-ish miles on the bike. It was my first time on the High Trestle Trail for 2026, and Momma N blessed us with awesome weather.
…Sunday?
The afternoon weather is looking a bit sketchy (#ThunderboltsAndLightning), but the morning looks calm. The odds are good I’ll rise and walk a few miles before heading to church. We shall see…
In case you missed out, here’s what went down on the blog this week:
As mentioned, this was a great week of active recovery. Despite the recent months’ intermittent cranky hip issues, all had gone well at the DAM to DSM Half Marathon, and there have been zero DOMS or any residual aches or pains since. I kept the running miles low (only eight miles of running this week). Biking had a decent showing, with 53 miles in the saddle. Walking easily dominated, with 26 miles in the walking shoes.
In other news:
Friday Fashion Flair. How do you feel about the classic black and white color combo? I’m a huge fan, but I love throwing in a punch of color…like with these sparkly orange sandals. Why not?
Finally, there were a few Garmin badges thrown my way this week:
So, that’s a wrap! I’m grateful for the easy recovery week! My next official race isn’t until July 4th (Fifth Season 8K), so I’m looking forward to a lot of easy-paced running in the next few weeks. I’m also planning on several more miles on the bike trail!
How did your week play out? Any unexpected weather changes affecting your activities? Did you race this weekend, or have anything coming up soon?
Walking is such a good way to recover, and with your 26 miles this week you walked a whole marathon!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to getting on my bike when we get back to Zurich this month.
Nice recovery week! Lots of badges even with the lack of running. A 4th of July race sounds fun and something to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on serving two masters on Global Running AND Biking Day. Also congrats on outdoor biking >>> indoor biking. It's summer!!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you found the perfect formula for recovery. Walking and biking are great low-impact options to keep moving and recover. I hope the storms aren’t too stormy today!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to hear that you recovered so easily from DAM to DSM, and that your hip hasn't been too cranky recently. Isn't it great to get back outside on the bike? You'll be so ready for RAGBRAI by the time it rolls around!
