Is Spring My (current) Favorite?

Hands-down, I'm a summer-lovin' gal.

The long days. The heat. The flowers. The scent of fresh-cut grass. The simplicity. Sigh....

These first few weeks of spring, though, have been pretty sweet. It kind of makes me wonder if this (current) spring season might be my favorite?

First off, there's no denying that feeling of renewal that comes with the spring season. As much as I love all things summer, I think I appreciate the summer season because I don't have it year-round in Iowa. The spring season is a glorious reminder that I have suffered, survived and made it through another winter. Spring is also a beautiful reminder that summer is well on its way.

Another attribute to spring is how fresh the air is. Although it can be a bit breezy (#understatement), it's still early enough - in the "warmer" time of year - that humidity isn't much (if any) of a factor.

One thing that especially is epic about spring is the liberty of shedding all the heavy layers of gear. Gone are the fleece headbands, stocking hats, flannel-lined tights and gloves.

Let's not forget how pretty it starts to look outside! The grass returns to a lovely shade of green. Trees are bidding. Bulbs are blooming. And the birds are singing.

Finally, my absolute favorite feature of spring is the extended daylight. For myself, there's nothing like the accomplishment of an early morning run, walk or bike ride. And, getting outside for all the aforementioned fitness fun as the sun is rising? Total bliss!

So yeah. Despite summer being my favorite season, I'm starting to think maybe, just maybe, spring may be a contender (or at least a close second).

  2. Love the season that you're in! But I agree that the weather has been gorgeous this week. This morning I had my first tank top & shorts outside workout and tomorrow I'm going on an outdoor adventure.

  3. Ah, spring! It was always such a relief after the long, gray, awful winter. I'm envious now of everyone's posts about the beautiful weather. I miss it... but not enough to go through the winter again. I'll just stick with the Florida heat.

  4. Fall is hands down my favorite but Spring is a close second for many of the reasons you mention. The extra daylight and fewer layers feel so good!

  5. We don't get much of a spring. We usually slide from winter to summer, and stay there forever. I always loved spring when lived up north. The whole idea of renewal and rebirth was one I could get behind.

  6. You are correct - Spring means we survived Winter and Summer is around the corner! Spring isn't my favorite but I don't mind it too much.
