My (current) Favorite Things

My favorite things. Sigh.

I don't know about you, but my favorite things are ever evolving. I'm not fickle, but my needs change...in terms of the current season or my state of fitness.

I'm also pretty open-minded, and am always on the lookout for new-to-me things to try.

Here's a few of my (current) favorite things. Don't worry, while I have linked the sites for these favorite items, none of them are affiliate links. They're simply must-have necessities that I use regularly and adore.

First, there's that hidden fear of an emergency, and ROAD iD is an item that can give you peace of mind. I have worn a ROAD iD for several years, especially for races or training runs. They are an easy means of having emergency contact info (not just your name, but a phone number(s) of family/friends) readily available. They're also quite stylish, too (and that's everything, right?). I also gifted some to my parents...even though they're not out running races, there still is the potential for emergency situations to arise.

Another thing to consider is your phone, and the Koala Clip is a great place to stash it. This may be a newsflash, but it's not just runners who take their phones with them when they leave the house. Often times, the idea of carrying a full purse just isn't necessary (or the least bit convenient). The Koala Clip secures to your sports bra strap (or even a fitted neckline, or waistband). It not only holds your phone, but also can be used for cash or credit cards or an ID. Did you catch my review (HERE)? Or see my discount code for 10% off (runningonthefly10)?

Ever venture out in the dark? Knuckle Lights will not only help you to be seen by others, but they will assist you in seeing where you're going. These nifty "mini" flashlights fit easily over your knuckles (hence their name), so they're easy to use. They come in handy for running or walking, but I've also used them for biking.

Speaking of being seen, another favorite item that needs mentioning is the Noxgear vest! I've had mine for almost two years, and it gets utilized several times a week (especially in the winter months, when there's limited daylight). Battery-operated, it gives you options on what color of lights as well as flashing/strobe options. In recent months, I've even been wearing mine for biking!

Lastly, fuel. As runners, or athletes in general, we often need fuel while fitness'ing, and SiS gels are a convenient option. Myself, I have a tummy that does not like gels anymore...but the SiS gels are a perfect fit because they are isotonic (meaning they do not require additional water for your body to process them). I did a review (HERE) on these a couple months ago as well.

Anyways, these are the current favorites. Some of these have been around for awhile, some are relatively new to me. Some definitely get used more often, but all of them serve a vital purpose for me.

Do you have some favorite products? Are they exclusively for running, or can they be used for other sports or activities?  Do your favorite items fluctuate from time to time, or season to season?

  1. These are all very good things. I think you just got me one step closer to getting a koala clip. I've been interested really don't need it for running since my flipbelt work well. But the koala would be nice for hiking and dog walks. I don't run in the dark any more BUT my knuckle lights are very handy for nighttime dog walks.

  3. Just this morning I went on a solo run and didn't take my flipbelt because it was so bulky. I thought about your review of the Koala Clip.
I checked it out once more when I got home and although Koala ships internationally, it costs a fortune to send and takes up to 45 days. Looks like I'll have to wait until they open shop in Europe! ;-)

    1. That makes me wonder if it would be less expensive (and much quicker) for me to get a Koala Clip for you and ship it myself (?). I'm game!

    2. Thank you so much for offering, Kim! But you know what? I have just decided that a Koala is going to be my 2020 running reward, so I went ahead and ordered it with your discount code. I'm so happy!

  4. Knuckle lights are so great as I sometimes get yelled at for my bright headlamp, but the knuckle lights won't blind passerbys :) Great list!

    1. Right? Even when I wear my hat (that has a built-in light), the Knuckle Lights are still better for seeing ahead of me without blinding the oncoming cars, people, etc.

    1. Although I haven't been using them as of late (and we all know why LOL), they still are my favorite fuel.

    1. I wear my RoadID almost everyday, just out of habit now. It helps that I have a small collection of them, so I have options on colors, etc.

  7. I don't think there's anything wrong with affiliate links. :)

Yes, I absolutely have some favs. Mine are a bit different (Skirt Sports, Honeystinger, Nuun). it's just so great there's so much to choose from, right?

I love trying new things. Both a blessing & a curse.

    1. Ha ha, I don't mind affiliate links, either (but I know some people do). I agree, it's nice that there are so many options available to us in terms of gear and fuel. It's a great time and age to be a runner!

  10. I’ve been so spoiled by the pockets on my SkirtSports skirts and shorts — I don’t have as many tights with pockets, but I do have my RUSeen vest — that’s probably a top-ranked favorite of mine.

    1. I don't think any of my tights have pockets..so I'm glad I have these other options. Like with anything fitness/running related, we all have our preferences on what works best for us. It's great that there are so many options nowdays!
